<p>so i am going to go visit this summer but i was wondering from any students or alumni what is the experience at Boston College like?</p>
<p>i am a nerd and do study but i also like to go and have fun. not much of a partier in the sense of drinking but i am one for the city and like to get outdoors.</p>
<p>another big thing is that i dont want TAs teaching my classes. unless they are really up for it. i like teachers that can be reached.</p>
<p>i am very social and am not shy when it comes to asking questions when i don’t understand.</p>
<p>so is it a fit?</p>
<p>Dear kailee373 : Boston College, as you would expect someone to post on this thread, will be an amazing experience for you provided that you choose to apply and are accepted. If you are truly a "nerd" (which I will take to mean academically gifted), maintain an SAT two-way score of 1450 or above, maintain an ACT of 33 or above, and are within the top couple of percent in your high school graduation class, you might be accepted to the Honors Program which will push you beyond your limits and then some.</p>
<p>Boston College has a great local social scene and the Boston restaurants and night life are just thirty minutes away via the "T". You should do the ride while on your school visit.</p>
<p>I have seen TAs that teach science discussion sessions, but full professors have taught everything I have seen thus far. The faculty is very approachable and from that standpoint, despite having 10,000 students, BC has a bit of the liberal arts college feel of a Williams, Amherst, or Swarthmore. Meanwhile, the bigger school sports scene, particularly around football (but also with a national championship in ice hockey) will occupy your Saturdays - even when the team is on the road.</p>
<p>At the end of the day, go to campus and soak in the experience - only then will you know if BC is in your top schools listing.</p>
<p>about the TA's.. they dont only lead discussions. my stats prof was a grad student and he was awesome. my friends stat prof was also a TA and he sucked. its all about the luck of the draw. or getting a good registration time so you get an actual professor.</p>
<p>while drinking is really visible on campus, you do not have to drink to be social or have firends at all. there was a clique of girls on my hall last year that didnt drink at all and still love BC. or if you like to party but not to drink.. no one will force a drink down your throat at a party. you can still go crazy without drinking if thats your thing.</p>
<p>and if you find friends that want to take advantage of the city with you, youll NEVER run out of things to do.</p>
<p>go there during the day in the early fall or spring and you will fall in love. expecially with all the kids laying on hte grass studying and just hanging out. thurs-sat night you probably wouldnt be pleased with what you saw. just know there will always be others you can chill with</p>
