so i am going to go visit this summer but i was wondering from any students or alumni what is the experience at NYU like?

i am a nerd and do study but i also like to go and have fun. not much of a partier in the sense of drinking but i am one for the city and like to get outdoors.

another big thing is that i dont want TAs teaching my classes. unless they are really up for it. i like teachers that can be reached.

i am very social and am not shy when it comes to asking questions when i don't understand.

so is it a fit?

With 4000 freshman, you will probably find your fit there. D goes, she is also very social, likes to study but likes to party in the sense that she wants to meet people, venture and explore the city and have fun.

1) It's the city, feel free to walk and and do stuff with your friends at any time. Not too different from any other school in this aspect though.

2) I've never been in or heard of a class taught by a TA (except recitations), I think NYU's pretty good about that.

3) NYU stresses independence more than, imho, any other school. Opportunities are everywhere for anything, be it art, music, business, graphics design, etc etc. The only thing is unlike other schools NYU won't baby you, so you'll have to take initiative. There are very few school-wide events and everyone is scattered after freshman year, so good social skills are key to maintain friends.
