I've been hesitant to consider schools without business undergrad programs because the idea of being an econ major doesn't appeal to me. I hear it is heavily math based, difficult and boring, which is why I am more attracted to a practical business education. The thing is though that there are several schools that seem too great to not consider just for that reason. So I'm hoping someone can convince me that being an econ major isn't all that bad, or is it?

I feel like I do this waaay to often this really should be pinned:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/business-major/714409-why-you-should-major-economics.html?highlight=economics

Read that and you questions/doubts about econ should be answered.

Some schools only require Calc 1 & Statistics for Economics

Yea calculus 2 isn’t all that necessary unless you want to do a graduate degree in economics or is required. Personally, if you dont need calculus 2 I would still take it anyway to keep the masters degree an option

Take an undergraduate econ course and see if you like it. The general consensus is that Econ is boring, but if you enjoy it you won’t want to do anything else.

I go to Michigan State, and Calc III is required for all economics majors - which is definitely necessary for econometrics.

[MSU RO:Academic Programs: Economics - Bachelor of Arts](http://www.reg.msu.edu/AcademicPrograms/ProgramDetail.asp?Program=4728)

“The University’s Mathematics requirement for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics is met by completing Mathematics 124, 132, or 152H.”

Isn’t Math 124 Calc I?

Math 124 at my College is Intermediate Algebra. No two colleges have the same numbering system.

I know, I was referring specifically to MSU.

Ghost73, I’m in the Bachelor of Science program. The Natural Science category of my degree requires Calc II and although Calc III isn’t explicitly necessary, I’ve yet to meet a single economics major who hasn’t taken it.

don’t do it… do finance or accounting, if u want, take some extra econ classes on the side. i have literally LEARNED NOTHING about economics after the intro courses

at least with finance or something, you actually know how to run a business and make investments

EconGeek, gotcha. Thanks for clarifying.
