What's it REALLY like at berkeley?

i was wondering if someone who goes there or is familiar with life at berkeley could tell me what life is like. is it really super liberal protest everything hippieville? is it really cut throat competitiveness? is it really the “ugliest group of people youll ever meet”? can someone clear up the stereotypes for me…thanks!

Look for my post "How to Get Into Cal and what to expect." Pretty much will tell you everything ya need ot know.

...and yes, people here are ugly. Myself included. But you get used to it.

To answer your questions generally
Berkeley is not super liberal at all. Most people dont care about politics. The republican club is the largest on campus, and is extremely vigerous.
Competitiveness?
Not cut throat, but pretty competitive. It's been exaggerated.
Ugly?
This is the worst rumor ever. There are LOTS of really good girls, although the average is below that of UCLA. But not by much.

thanks so much bubbles! i will see you there next year!

the city of berkeley is more liberal than the school itself

mrmm i visited berk a buncha times when my sister was going there and i saw plenty of nice girls =P

can't wait =D

how's the party scene at berkeley? or does everyone just smoke pot? lol like for most freshmen.. what do people usually do socially?

socially: It's up to you.

If you want an active social life, join a good fraternity or sorority (conservative/capitalistic), or if you are inclined the other direction (communal), join a Co-op. Otherwise, it'll be pretty dead if you just hang out in the dorms unless you get that RARE floor that CLICKS.

Or, join a club!

what's a co-op?

It's a communal living arrangement where people live in a single house or housing structure, and share responsibility. It's kinda hard to explain and some have serious drug problems, so keep that in mind.

co-ops are fun, except..............whatever andrewtdx said

it's really possible for a "more passive" student to get lost in the crowd, right? that's what i keep hearing
