What's JE like?

I just found out that I'm in JE. Is this a good or a bad thing? How's the food/dorms? How does it stack up against the other residential colleges? Anything interesting that one could not find in a book or on a website? Basically, what's the inside word?

i have very little "inside word," but i'll tell you what i know. je is very very pretty outside, but the inside still hasn't been renovated, and won't be until we're seniors (so, unfortunately, you'll never get to live in a nice renovated college). BUT i understand that je-ers get nice freshman housing so that's a plus. also, je's cheer is "je sux!" which i think is simply hysterical. i wanted to be in je for that reason alone (but i'm in td, which i'm very happy with also). anyway, that's all i've got. hope i told you something new... :)

JE is a great college to be in! It's smaller than most and the people are really friendly. JE's going to be renovated in the 2007-2008 school year and people will live in Swing Space during the renovation. You get to live in Farnam your freshman year, which is some of the better freshman housing. JE's food isn't, frankly, the best, but you can always eat at Commons or at another college.

well, that doesn't really sound that spectacular. so JE is NOT renovated, it has crappy food, and after freshman year the dorms are terrible. well, i guess JE really does suck. i'm ****ed they put me in there...

JE is the richest college. Their alumni fund is the biggest. You'll get to go on fun trips to NYC for free. I hear the master of the college also collects fine art.

JE has a lot of spirit and has some really fun college gear. I think that I remember seeing JE hats and scarves last year. I hear that the basement is kind of sketchy at some parts, but I doubt that it's too bad.

And contrary to what people say about JE's dining hall, I rather like it. The food at each dining hall is often cooked at Commons and then heated at the residential colleges, so the menus for each college dining hall will be the same (well, less BK, but I'll save that for a later discussion...). Thus, the disparity in food quality is large artificial, and I don't see why people say that JE's food is "worse."

Don't be sad or mad that you were placed into JE! It's a great and beautiful college, and I'm sure that you'll have a lot of fun. JE has a lot of esoteric traditions, and I think that's what makes a college great. Get used to hearing "JE SUX!" - affectionately, of course.

(But Calhoun is still the best college... if perhaps for unfathomable or wholly illogical reasons.)

JE is the richest college. There are lots of opportunities to go to NYC, see plays and operas, dine and drink well, etc., all for free or virtually no cost because of it. The food at JE isn't exactly the same as Commons, due to the lack of grilling facilities. This will change after the renovation. And you're not exactly living in a slum, even though JE hasn't been renovated yet. JE gear is also incredibly cheap or free because JE is so rich. Hoodies for $6, free hats, etc.
