I started my college list and narrowed it down to 9 so I'm thinking of applying to this one not only is it in southern cali but its by the beach(I think or some water)...I live in the bay area so I probably can't visit soon. Are there a lot of people from norcal going there is no what's like compared to home. And is the student body equally diverse racially because my high school is almost but I like and kinda use to it..I don't think id feel comfortable if there was predominantly 1 race even if its my own. Thanks
And I'm a girl if that affects my experience b/c my bro is always trying to scare me with these stories of rape from certain colleges I was thinking of going to but I'm sure it could happen at any college.

Okay…first of all, CSULA is a commuter college. Most people just go there for classes and go home. I wouldn’t really expect much of a social scene, if that’s something that’s important to you.

Racial breakdown:
There’s definitely stats on this. But I think it’s like
50% Latino
20% Asian
20% White
5% Black
5% Other
But really, if you look around campus, you’ll mostly see Latinos. So not incredibly diverse.

Safety - You probably heard that it’s not in the best of neighborhoods, which is true. But the campus itself is very safe. It’s not like super dangerous outside, but you should be careful at night.

Thanks ya LA at night might not be as safe as where I live in the bay area but I don’t want to go to csu la I was considering Long Beach but I’m not sure since must CSUs are commuter than I could just stay at home and commute to a CC then maybe transfer to a UC or CSU

I just finished @ CSULA. I didn’t want to go here when I transferred from a NorCal jc, but it was a blessing in disguise. First of all it’s one of the cheapest state schools and NO it is not scary @ night. The only crimes that I heard of during my time here were rapes & drivebys at USC and UCLA.
It doesn’t have much of a party scene this is true, but the students here are hard workers & many of them are first generation college students. They’re not here on their parents $$ or to **** around. You will learn more here than you will at any other CSU in southern Cali. I had professors from Columbia, UCLA, NYU, UCSB and so on and they teachers here actually want to teach. Just some advice because I know I didn’t want to go here but I’m glad I did
