What's life like over at UC Riverside

I started my college list and narrowed it down to 9 so I'm thinking of applying to this one not only is it in southern cali but its by the beach(I think or some water)...I live in the bay area so I probably can't visit soon. Are there a lot of people from norcal going there is no what's like compared to home. And is the student body equally diverse racially because my high school is almost but I like and kinda use to it..I don't think id feel comfortable if there was predominantly 1 race even if its my own. Thanks
And I'm a girl if that affects my experience b/c my bro is always trying to scare me with these stories of rape from certain colleges I was thinking of going to but I'm sure it could happen at any college.

WOAH! did you just say UC Riverside is by a beach?!?! there’s no beach for at least a 45 minute drive!try Santa Barbara or San Diego which are literally in front of the ocean. Irvine is about a 5-10 miniute drive. Irvine is rated as one to the safest cities to live (Glad I live here now) but like you said crime happens everywhere. UCR is very diverse, but like many UCs the population there is around 40+% Asian. Riverside campus is great, but the city off campus is pretty shady and scary at night, but so is UCLA & USC. Be extra careful when walking home, walk with friends, don’t text or blast your headphones. try not to walk after dark, etc. when iPods became popular there was a string of robberies where they were preying on people with white earphones. Just don’t be stupid and you’ll be fine.

In terms of student life OUTSIDE of school, Riverside is pretty sad, you being from the bay area would be stuck in the city with nothing to do. you would just end up driving to Irvine or LA on the weekends. There’s not much open at night that you would want to go to. Irvine kinda suck too since everything here closes at 9pm…which is why I think they are safe, criminals got no one to attack! if you have a choice in campus, definitely pick something “funner” you just have to keep in mind that you should study hard for the next four years. Riverside made me study harder since there were no distractions.

Thanks.Ya I kinda copied&pasted so some colleges are near the beach but I really want to go to san diego but then this college I have a better chance and I think its the UC with the most ppl of my race.I just want to go someplace far ,near a beach or something natural would be nice but then again I like the city…I don’t think I have anything to worry about b/c the lasted I walked out alone was 10 but I live a block from Safeway so it was fine but nothing bad happens except for cars making u-turns and slowing down but that jus creeps me out.

UCR is in LA metro, I went to see few weeks ago, very impressive university

You definitely do not want to go here, trust me, I live in riverside…

Why is it in the middle of nowhere? I’m ok with a not so urban college because I want to see nature trees, plants ect.

Its one of my safe choices but I want to go to Sacamento or San Diego

You know, it depends on what you want in a school.

Yes, the area is not as beautiful as San Diego. Yes, the area is a bit economically depressed.

However, academically it is full of very committed faculty and programs that are producing people that are making a difference in our society.
