I attend an specialized Academy that only accepts 50 students a year and the classes are really tough. Right now my GPA is a 3.5 UW but my SAT score is 2250. I've seen all these posts on collegeconfidential with people with 3.9 gpa's but 1900 sat scores. So I was wondering what do ba/bs/md program admissions and big universities give more importance to. Thanks for the help guys.

GPA matters much more than your SATs, but you should try and do well on both. And GPA is almost always taken in context (so your guidance counselor usually explains how a 3.5 in your school would compare).

GPA is much more important for top universities because it shows your academic experience over four years, while sat shows how well you can take a test with 1-2 months prep.

GPA is more important, nice name Varchy btw lol

(Top) Colleges understand that a GPA at one school is different from a GPA at another. This is why they work to obtain a lot of background information about GPA, including class rank and program rigor.

However, test taking skills are probably helpful in other standardized tests (e.g. MCAT).

Both are needed to be accepted into the most selective colleges.

GPA is usually more important. SAT is a 5-hour test. GPA covers four years. Both are still important, but usually not the critical factor at top universities.

does this mean i have no chance into getting into any programs or universities like Cornell?

What is your class rank or percentile? Where have students with your GPA historically been accepted to? We know nothing about your schools grading rigor, structure etc.
