What are the most important part of an application when applying to Northwestern? GPA? essays? rank? SAT/ACT? interview?

ED supplement. Next is GPA/ class rank/ SAT/ACT. Essays are very important, as well. Interviews, in my totally unofficial best guess opinion, can only hurt a strong candidate; an outstanding interview might help a good candidate. My main point is that if Northwestern isn't your first choice, chances of admission are well below the average admit rate.

To tell you the truth, they all matter. However, I think that the GPA places more emphasis.

The whole application matters. Make sure, however, you concentrate carefully on answering the essay questions.

GPA and ACT/SAT are probably the most important. Essays are high up as well. For rank, it depends on the school you go to because not all schools do class rank (my school doesn't, at least). For interviews, it really depends. I think that if you can go up there and aren't the strongest of candidates, it couldn't hurt; however, if you are a pretty strong candidate, an interview may not be completely recommended because who knows what could happen in one (it could hurt you). Extra curricular activities would probably also help. But, to me, GPA and ACT/SAT are the most important.

i might argue that extracurriculars matter a lot. i think since everyone thinks something different matters the most, probably the most important thing must be well-roundedness

i haven't met anyone yet who was valedictorian with poor SATs, or someone who was an eagle scout with a 2.0 GPA. I think most people fall somewhere in the top 10%, 1400ish, played-a-few-sports realm.

What field do you think you are going to go into? That could also have some impact on what is important for your application.

^ I'm planning to apply as a math major.
