What's my GPA?

My final grades is three A's and three B's. But, it said my GPA was a 3.47. I don't understand, isn't it a 3.5? I also found out one of my teachers didn't put in my finals grade yet. Should I wait it out to see if my grades will update or is my final a 3.47? The school told me they might not all be updated but that was before they posted final grades so I'm not sure.. Trying to get on the dean's list here.

That would only be a 3.5 if all your classes were the same number of credits. Are they?

No, all of them are 3 credits except one. I have 17 credits

4.0 x 2 As x 3 credit hours = 24 quality points
3.0 x 3 Bs x 3 credit hours = 27 quality points
4.0 x 1 A x 2 credit hours = 8 quality points

24+27+8= 59 quality points
59 quality points/17 credit hours = 3.47

So that’s how it’s calculated.
Also I’ve never been on the dean’s list to my knowledge even when I’ve had a 4.0, so I don’t really understand how it works…

i’m sure dean’s list depends based on where you go to school. here at UC Davis you get on the dean’s list if your GPA is in the top 16% of your class in your college. i was on it last quarter with a 3.9 and should be on it this quarter with a 4.0

If they haven’t put in your final grades… then you wouldn’t have a final GPA.

And if you’re taking seventeen hours, then your GPA will not fall exactly on a 3.5. One of your classes has more weight or less weight than all of your others.

Dean’s List here at USC:
4.0 for President’s List for the previous semester
3.5 (3.25 for freshmen) for Dean’s List for the previous semester

So it definitely varies from university to university. I’m assuming Dean’s List at your school is a 3.5.

At UChicago, the Dean’s list is a 3.25 or better.
