I have the book "Paying for College Without Going Broke 2010 ed. from the library. It is a fantastic book. I wish I had known about it years ago. Amazon has the 2011 edition available for pre-order. It will be released Tuesday October 26. Does anyone have an idea how much new or different information will be in the new edition? I have already seen the link on this site for the 2011-2012 FAFSA formula. Does the CSS Profile change from year to year?

I think you are fine with the book you have. I agree, it is very helpful! You are also doing a good thing by checking in here on the financial aid forum so you can pick up tips and news. The Fafsa and CSS can change (anything can!) but I have seen very little movement from year to year.

If you are going to be anxious about this, perhaps it is worth the $30 to buy the new version and then you can pass on the 2010 copy to a family just starting out on the college path. That would be a win-win.

If it were me, I think I’d spend some time on the Amazon site and see if I could tell what section in the book was “new this year” to see if it is worth the bucks.

Been buying the book for years! I am pretty sure they hold off the publication until the FAFSA & CSS Profile questions are complete! The book goes through both with each “Line number” questions listed.

If there should be any changes after publication, Princeton Review has a website listed in the book that you can check to see if anything is new!

As you mention, the 2011 edition will be released October 26th, and you can pre-order it for $13.50 right NOW on Amazon. It will be the best $13.50 you ever spend.

Out of date information can be very expensive.

I’ll amend my comment. For $13.50, it’s a steal. Well worth the upgrade at that price. Still, I hope you’ll pass on last year’s volume to another family just starting the process. You can write on the fly leaf “This book is upgraded annually!!!” so they know to look further.

Thank you for reminding me, just ordered it from Amazon!

Received my book today, very disapointed in it. No EFC Worksheets for both FM & IM, you must read pages 321-324. I guess I will use the 2010 Edition to do some calculations & then run some numbers on the Collegeboard’s website calculator & compare.

“This year, in a change of policy, the College Board is no longer providing anyone with the tables and formulas to calculate the IM.”

Oh good, so now we all have another reason to hate the College Board! Yahoo!!!

So, I want to buy this book, DS is a senior now and the local library doesn’t have the book, should I buy the 2010 or the 2011 edition?
