What's New Brunswick Like?

I just got accepted recently and I cannot wait to dorm in the fall. I've visited campus before but I wondering what it was like to live there

Busch is pretty quite. People can and do throw parties, but they are generally small. Not much to do except go to the gym. Cafeteria is the best out of all the campuses in my opinion, even better than the new Livingston one.

Livingston is also quite and under construction until 2013. Not much in terms of entertainment.

College Avenue is where the action is. Virtually all of the parties are held in the frats/houses here. Many excellent (and cheap) restaurants to frequent. Two smoke shops that are right next to each other. Also, there is a gym here, although it is not better than the one on Busch. All of this fun is at the expense of the quiet study time you may need.

Cook/Douglass is dead. There is quite literally nothing to do there. They did recently build a Dunkin Donuts in the Student Center, but DD never had good coffee to begin with.

College Ave is indeed where the action is. It’s the smallest campus, so it’s easy to get around, and it blends into downtown New Brunswick. The dining hall is by far the worst of the 4, but as the above poster said, there are tons of cheap restaurants on Easton Ave (1-2 blocks away from College Ave) and on George Street (also just a few blocks off). And even then, the dining hall isn’t THAT bad. This is also where all the frat houses and good parties are. It can get pretty noisy, but for some that’s a good thing.

Livingston is where a lot of freshmen live, barring the Livingston Apartments (which are brand new and probably the best housing option available at RU; or at least they will be when they open in the fall). The other dorms on Livingston (the Towers and the Quads) are subpar. The dining hall is pretty good, and they have a touchscreen system that you can order burgers on (free, of course). Because of all the construction they’ve done in the past few years, it’s probably the most modern campus. The basketball stadium is there too. It looks big on the map, but once you take out the giant ecological preserve (where you wouldn’t go anyway), it’s probably the smallest campus.

Busch is the science campus. It’s huge and sprawling, which can make it a little difficult to figure out at first, but you’ll get it eventually. I disagree about the dining hall being the best; it was last year, but it has really gone down in quality. I’d say it’s the 3rd out of 4. Busch is where the suites are for honors freshmen and groups of 6 upperclassmen, though I think they’re overrated, too. The dorms and apartments are alright, and it’s not hard to find a party there if you know some people. The football stadium is there, too.

Cook/Douglass (there’s a dividing line between the two, but it’s essentially one campus) is actually not that bad. In my opinion, their dining hall is by far the best. Some of the dorms are quite crappy, but they do have the theater and a decent student center (it’s on the dilapidated side, but the cafe is decent).

Overall RU NB is a pretty varied place between the campuses, and has a lot for everyone. The bus system is probably the worst part about the campus, but you’ll get used to it. Plus you’re right near the downtown of what is really a pretty nice city (well, pretty nice downtown anyway. People like it here.
