Family members have been encouraging me to make a LinkedIn for awhile, and I finally did. As an incoming frosh, there’s not much on it now, but I was just wondering what types of things other students put on theres. Clubs, leadership positions, sports teams, just internships?
My LinkedIn mostly has just my previous employment background as well as fields of expertise (E.g. programming languages). I haven’t used it much though.
Classes I’ve taken and internships or paid jobs I’ve had. I would include clubs if I had any leadership positions with actual responsibilities.
I have classes that I’ve taken, jobs I’ve had, and employable skills that I have. I am also part of groups for my college, sorority, and my major’s professional society.
-High school I went to, description of leadership roles/activities (left out most of the unimportant stuff)
-College I attend, my majors
-Summer jobs that relate to my major
-Languages
-Volunteer experience
-National volunteer award I received
-Skills
Jobs, education (classes and school), technical skills, and a copy of a general resume of mine.
My preschool finger paintings, mostly
Jobs, volunteering, that I edit Wikipedia, computer skills, and programming projects that I’ve done.
A word of advice: Don’t put stuff from High School. It’s ok to say graduated XX High school in 1999 or whatever, but don’t put clubs/sports or anything like that. Once you get into college, what you did in High School is irrelevant. No graduate school or employer cares if your were captain of the swim team.
college education, experience, volunteer work, languages, skills
If you’re just starting college, I think it’s all right to list activities from your high-school years (although I wouldn’t list school-sponsored activities like clubs unless you did something really exceptional). For example, you can list any jobs or internships you had. If you took college classes, you can list those too.
