What's orientation week all about?

Greetings to all : )

Can anyone tell me something about the orientation week. What do students during orientation? How important is it to an international student?

PS, residence halls will open in August 17, but orientation week starts earlier (on 13). Where to live on the first few days of orientation? Is it difficult to find a place to live in near Cornell?

Any help will be appreciated. Thx :D

Orientation week is hands down one of the most fun weeks of the year. It starts the same day as move in day (Aug 17) so you don’t have to worry about finding other housing. It’s just a chance where everyone can start meeting people. There’s all types of events all week (concerts, giant group activities, college info sessions) so you can get the hang of things. The best part about it is that there aren’t any classes during orientation week and everyone is very friendly. My freshman year it was normal to go the dining hall that week and sit with strangers and introduce yourself. It sounds weird now but it’s something that everyone I know now either did or had it happen to them. Orientation week is important to everyone, international or not. It’s the perfect time to meet your friends and the people you’re going to be living with in a relaxed setting. My only words of advice are to be open that week. You’ll have a lot of fun if you do :D

Agreed, O week is when it’s okay to introduce yourself to every stranger you meet. Set your tray down at a table full of strangers and expect everyone to introduce themselves. Play weird bonding games and really attend as many of the events as you can because that’s how you meet people. Do your best to meet the people in your dorm too because then when you want them to quiet down later you already know and respect them.
It’s kind of like a week of summer camp. All the fun of Cornell without all the work.
