when people in america say they go to a party, do they mean drinking, socializing, playing pool and stuff? or do they mean something involving music and dance?

when people in america say they go to a party, do they mean drinking, socializing, playing pool and stuff? or do they mean something involving music and dance?

It can mean either, but in college, it will almost always mean drinking.

really? so people just hang around and talk to other people? no playing pool, ping pong, throwing darts, or playing checkers?

In college a party consists of drinking alcohol, dancing, and talking in really loud voices because the music is so loud. If you have never been to one prepare yourself for a very INTERESTING experience!!

Definitely tons of drinking, dancing, loud music and cigarettes. Perhaps Beirut or Quarters, but no games that don't involve alcohol.

Are there any college parties that involve... I don't know... anything BESIDES the alcohol/dancing/really loud voices bit? Or is that pretty much all there is?

Of course there are other options. It all depends on the friends you choose. It is definitely possible to have fun without getting trashed, doing whatever kinds of things you currently enjoy doing. There are plenty of college students who actually enjoy conversation, and without booze.

Why would you want to do anything besides drink and dance to crappy rap music?

You will learn to hate 50 cent very much after a week or two of these type events.

games?

kick the can, drink the beer (the objective is to drink the beer, of course) f*** the dealer, the list goes on ...

my main point of going to a party is dancing and socialzing. are dancing and socializing also major events at parties, or is just mainly drinking and little dancing/conversing? is there presssure to drink?

and when you say dancing, what kind of dancing.....in the club dancing or wedding reception dancing? lol.

Dancing at college parties usually (not to be racial, so don't jump my bones I am white mind you) consists of a couple black couples doing whatever current dance is hot, and a bunch of white boys with baseball caps moving their arms up and down, bobbing their heads, and a couple of drunk chicks grinding on each other. The rest of the party is people trying to score. There is usually no pressure to drink at all, unless you are a female going to a frat party, then expect to be handed shots and drinks every minute or so.

joev what school do you go to?

i'd say typical frat parties don't consist of socializing... more like grinding on whoever you can find... and likely not remembering who/what the next day.

*** is beriut????? u mean beer pong??????

yea, that's how my high school parties are. lol.

"grind with me...." lol.

drinking games with cards are horrible (kings is ok on slow nights if there are a lot of girls around). beruit and flip cup are definitely your best bet and work as a great pre-game. but again when a lot of people come its best to get the dance floor going.

Can someone please clear this up for me...I don't know how it is in College but MOST of my friends in high school drink and I don't. I respect the fact that they never pressure me or discriminate against me due to this fact. I have as much fun at parties and have zero hassles with being around them and watching out for them when they're drunk. They'll always politely offer me a drink although they know I won't :) So...my question is, is the environment the same friendly one at college? Will you be accepted/respected at parties where other will but you won't drink? ...I'm off to U of Penn next year so this will be a BIG BIG part of my life I'm guessing :D

So long as you're looking out for them while their drunk and don't hold stupid blackout induced mistakes against them (esp. when you were the only one sober enough to remember) then I imagine most drinkers would appreciate having a sober friend like you around. I can't imagine how you can have fun going to a party full of drunk people and not drinking, though.

Naw...I won't blackmail them, I'm a good friend haha. Also, I enjoy myself because I crack up at my buddies doing hilarious stuff (like punching a truck parked on the street or givin props to a bum on the street..). Also my friends started talking their hearts out when they're drunk and I enjoy those talks. So, its alright I guess.

So at these parties at Penn will I probably be the only one sober? Or will there generally be a few others too? What percentage would you say.

Thanks!
