i visted pomona and claremont mckenna last year and liked them very much but i'm not applying since i think my chances are very slim there.
i started looking into pitzer and it seems a little easier to get into.
life seems pretty chill there too.

im thinking about majoring in biology but im worried that pitzer might not be the best at science since its pretty good at psychology.

how are the students, food, and dorms?
how hard is it to get in?

i have a 4.03 weighted gpa
29 on my act (retaking it)
top 11%....trying to get in the top 10% before i graduate.
im VP of amnesty international club and president and founder of the west tutoring club

Runninglover, like many you may be a bit confused about the way the Claremont Colleges work. Pitzer, Claremont McKenna and Scripps share Joint Science, which is lodged in building the sits at the intersection of these three colleges. Go to the Pitzer or CMC websites and read about Joint Science. The difference between Pitzer and CMC is not the science classes available but the number of students majoring in life sciences.

My son really wanted Mudd or Pomona (which were reaches for him) but applied to Pitzer as a match. He loves Pitzer, which has a laid back, cooperative vibe, and has no regrets. He takes classes at the other Claremont schools, too, and may end up with his major at Pomona.

Pitzer has a strong community service commitment and a real “family” kind of vibe. You might be uncomfortable if you wanted a very competetive atmosphere or are politically conservative.

You should be a lock for Pitzer RD. Go for CMC ED, especially if you can pay full freight.

As for what Pitzer is like, the food is the best in the 5C’s (except Scripps) and they have some great dining options. The dorms are pretty nice as well as they’re redoing them (or were last time I was there) although from the look of the academic buildings if there are older dorms left (I’m not sure) I’d stay away.

The students are another thing altogether. Although there are a few exceptions who seem to be there for an assortment of reasons ranging from learning disabilities to they seem to honestly enjoy the environment, the school is full of what could best be described as spoiled “hippie potheads” in the sense that Cartman from South Park rails against them. There is a fair share of contrived self importance to a portion of the student body as well. That said, I would not want to be associated with the Pitzer stereotype.
