What's so bad about a "W"?

My sister isn’t doing so well in her math class right now… she has a dangling C minues that will drop down to a D because she failed the most recent test. I’ve never been in this kind of situation, so I’m wondering if anybody knows… She is planning to drop the class, but 1. it’s already two thirds of the semester, so i’m not sure if she is able to and 2. I heard it’s really bad to have a W on your transcript… but it’s better than getting a D, right?? How much can having a W on her transcript affect her college admissions? She’s a sophomore, btw.

If she can drop, the she should as the W willnot hurt her as bad as the D.
The W could be something as simple as a scheduling conflict or placement in a wrong section. The D however represents her performance in the class.

check out the thread on this in the College Life forum

oh CRAP. i got a double on my Junior college transcript ( i take PE classes over there instead of PE at school for the grad requirment). I had to drop one PE class and got a W. is that bad?

A "W" just means you withdrew from a class...it does not count for anything I've taken many college classes and although I don't want many "W," a few will not hurt anyone...The colleges typically pretend that you never took the course...If you are still worried call a university you are planning to apply to and ask them.

W is awesome. The President and the grade. I only have like 3 Ws on my entire transcript. Why take an F when you can get a W?
