What's stopping you from lying about your ECs for the UC app?

Not that I have any intention of doing it whatsoever, I was just thinking about it and how it's flawed...

I just don't see UCs such as LA, Berkeley, or SD calling up even a fraction of their applicants to confirm since they have so many applications.

Your conscience.

The UCs (and it is the university as a whole, not just some) annually take a random sample of the applicants and then have that sample of applicants verify their ECs. Thus, what stops you other than being an honest person is the risk of being chosen for that sample.

the UCs are really numbers driven, i don’t think they really care if you were a member of NHS. If you did something so great that it would be “the thing” that your admission was riding on they could easily google it.

They do random check. Also UCs make sure you don’t have a C or D in Senior year. Only 1/4 of students that were accepted to UCLA and UCB at our high schools decided to attend in the last few years for some reasons.

What about top schools like Stanford? Do they only audit a small sample of their applicants, or do they verify everything for everyone?

If you have no intention of lying, then you have nothing to fear…

I’m not fearing anything. I’m just curious. >_>

Well, I think you know the answer.

You probably won’t get caught, and if the one person that really matters doesn’t care, then you’re OK.

I think a smart thing would be to check the validity of EC of those who got accepted
