HI! I've seen many "TAP" and "TAG" in the forum. What do they mean?

TAP: A UCLA program providing priority consideration in the admissions process for students who complete their CCC’s honors program (assuming the program participates in TAP, and many do).

TAG: A guarantee of admission given to students who meet certain criteria. Offered by all UCs except UCLA and Berkeley.

Thank you very much! Do you any school that provides TAP and TAG? for example SMC?

smc has a scholars program which is the same as tap it only works for majors that are in the college of letters and sciences (not including communications)

As far as I know, all CCCs work for TAG. As for TAP, check here:

[Transfer Alliance Program - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/ADM_CCO/tap.htm#TAP)

yeah all CCCs work for TAG. you just need to fit the requirements of the UCs that do TAG.

Thank you all very much!

no problem good luck!

If you have the opportunity (and wish to transfer to UCLA) I would highly recommend you take part in TAP. It significantly boosts your chances at UCLA.

Thank you!

Agreed. There are a lot of exceptions, but the rule of thumb is “3.5+TAP=Guaranteed Admission to UCLA.” This obviously wouldn’t apply to BizEcon, Communications, etc., but for the less impacted majors it generally holds true.

Regardless of your GPA, TAP can be what makes the difference. While the stats are self-selecting (honors students tend to have higher than average GPAs, etc), TAP applicants generally have an 85+% acceptance rate, depending on the CCC you attended.

Thank you! Is it very difficult to be a TAP student?

no not really its diff at every cc but at mine (pierce college) its basically taking 4 honors classes and doing two honors contracts. honors contracts are basically an xtra assignment you do in a class that u take listed on igetc that isn’t an official honors class. the assignment is typically a 8-10 page paper. and honors classes are kinda the same just extra hw maybe an extra paper or presentation.

and your gpa to get into the honors program is like around a 3.2 (it varies for each cc) however just because you meet the gpa to be in the honors program doesn’t mean you will get into ucla with that gpa. so if a person that has a 3.2 and will be certified for completing tap will prob not get into ucla as a competitive major like econ or psych.

so basically what nick_scheu said, if you do tap and have a 3.5+ you will prob get into an impacted major like psych or soc. but if your major is HIGHLY impacted like communications or bizz econ or just econ itself you should prob aim for a 3.8+ and be in the tap program.

Thank you for helping! But when can I join TAP after I got into a CC? Like you said, they look at your GPA, but where does the GPA from? High school?
