According to Dates & Deadlines | University of Michigan Office of Admissions the deadline for high school seniors is February 1st (applying LSA).

However, I've heard that UMich is rolling... does this mean it would be beneficial for me to send in my app on or before January 1st with my other apps?

I wouldn't mind spending a few days after Jan 1st to polish my essays but if it would hurt my chances I don't think it's worth it.

At this time, you are already too late to benefit from rolling admissions. You were supposed to apply in the September-November period to benefit from it. Applying in January will not hurt your chances much, but you will not hear back before March.

Ok, that makes more sense. I knew EA decisions were released rolling, but just didn’t make the connection.

Actually, EA decisions were almost all released between December 14 and December 18. It is the RD and deferred applicants who will hear back anytime between late January and mid April.

So if you apply RD during/before November, or apply EA during/before November (if deferred), you benefit from rolling admissions, but if you apply RD before Feb 1st you get your results on a set date?

That’s pretty interesting, not that it matters in my case…
