Whats like the average GPA of non-athlete/no legacy students that get into Harvard?

And for the calculation of this GPA, Harvard looks at your freshman, sophomore, AND junior years right?

And do you guys know what Harvard puts most emphasis on in regards to admittances?

thanks guys!

only one kid from my school got in without a 4.0 uw (out of 7 acceptees).

They put the most emphasis on what you wear to the interview, definitely. Everyone at Harvard is VERY stylish. If you can't dress well, no room for you in Cambridge. Make sure to wear a lot of "ice" and "bling" to the interview. Also, in the essay, make sure to talk a lot about vacations you've taken--how the summer at the mansion on Cape Cod changed you, etc--or volunteering at soup kitchens--also an original topic.

As for the average GPA at Harvard, it's about 2.3 for non-athletes/non-legacies. Athletes, of course, are much higher. They're at about 3.1, usually. No, Harvard doesn't look at all 3 years--they just look at your second semester English grade from Sophomore year and that pretty much determines admission. In your app, try not to mention extracurriculars--Harvard HATES people who do a lot of ECs.

(haha, sorry to take my sarcasm out on you, shaq, but I guess we're all about to burst with anxiety about the upcoming decision--let's face it, the most qualified people are going to get in, it's no use worrying about what is most emphasized, GPA, etc.)

Que sera sera!!!

wow what a helpful and informative post.

I'm feeling overwhelmed by the sarcasm. How about something sincere...

Grades (and course load, etc) are supposed to be the single most important factor in admissions. Of course, in a school as highly regarded and competitive as Harvard, the GPA of most applicants will be strikingly similar, so from my point of view, grades are something of a foot in the door for the average applicant.

i'm guessing that grades can only get you rejected by being bad. They cannot get you accepted by being good

that would be accurate
