What's the best ACT prep book to study with?

The Red book
PR review

wats the red book?

The Real ACT Prep Guide made my the makers of the ACT. The color of the Book is red, so students refer it as the Red Book.

oh alright.. are those the only two good books? red book and pr?

yup
they are the best ones in my opinion.

Barrons is really good and the tests questions are sometimes harder than the actual ACT questions so it prepares you pretty well.

Sometimes harder???? Barron's way too hard...

Princeton Review is GREAT. I just got the book and it covers everything from practice tests to strategies. It even includes a DVD covering everything lol

what about Peterson's? anyone have any opinions on that one?

^ harder. But it's a good review book if you buy complete guide to the act. PR's a bit better though

It seems to really depend on who you ask. Some say PR, some kaplan.... barrons.... etc

anyone have any insights to sparknotes or ACT for dummies?

I know that the ACT for dummies tests are inaccurate, but the tips are pretty good

Princeton Review (for english, math, and science)

Real ACT book (for all subjects)

Kaplan (reading especially, but it's good for all)

Barron's (very hard, but it'll help out your score since the real thing will seem much easier than this beast of a book... at least, that's how it was for me)

I really liked the Barron's one.

The red book "The REAL Guide to the ACT" is the only book to get. It is made by the company that administers the test and the questions are from previous years' exams. Do not go with the Kaplan, Princeton Review, etc. I run a company that does test prep and I wouldn't recommend anything else.

^^^ in response to vandy's post:

the Real ACT book a great book to get... but i didn't raise my score on this book alone.. this book helped me a lot... but for me to fix specific problems, i had to get other books.. with the real act book alone, i got 2 30's and a 31 on my ACT... with the real act book and kaplan, i got a 34.... with the real act book, kaplan, princeton review, barron's, and mcgraw-hill, i got a 35... so, in my case, in order for me to score very high, i needed more than one book (of course, this doesn't apply to everyone.. some people study for 30 minutes and get 35's and 36's.. unfortunately, i'm not like that)

peytoncline, wat is the mcgraw-hill book?

There's a bunch of M-hill books. Buy which ever one you want... but beware- MH's a lot easier than the real act
