What's the best residence hall?

there are interests floors

is there any difference in cost betweent the various residence halls?

good question^^ I would like to know that as well

i think they all cost the same, the only difference in the cost is if you have a single, double or triple, and also how many meals plans you have, the minimum you can have is 10, then 14 and 19 are the other options. I you live in san raf, which a lot of sophmores due, the rooms in the suites are still considered double so you might get screwed if you get the 6 or 8 person suite because i think you still pay the same price as the 4 person suite, but you still would be sharing less space with more people.

alot of the points im trying to make across won’t really make sense until you live here. I honestly do believe it would be a mistake not to live at FT though… mostly just because it’s a rite of passage. Don’t overthink everything else! You can try to think about all of the tiny details but bottom line is that you’re in high school and you just can’t predict how you’re going to change over the next 12 months.

Basically, if you want the intense social experience that is FT, go for it. The on-campus dorms are way more convenient, though, and are also great. I’m in San Nic right now, and I like it a lot. The main campus dorms are close to both Ortega and DLG, which is good, because you will get tired of dorm food, and it helps to be able to switch off, and they’re both way better than Portola. You’re also way closer to your classes (depending on where they are, I can get to some of my classes in less than 5 minutes walking), and also to the Library, UCEN, basically everything. San Nic and San Miguel have smaller rooms than Anacapa, Santa Cruz, and Santa Rosa, but they don’t have any triples. My room is smaller than the rest of them on my floor for some reason, and with the beds lofted we have enough room. In San Nic you mostly get to know people from your floor, and I guess in the 2-story dorms you meet more people. San Nic is L-shaped with half guys and half girls on every floor, except the 8th is all girls. San Miguel is basically the same except they are two separate towers, and they alternate guys and girls on each floor.

the sammlest room on the floor for san miguel, and maybe san nic is the first one on the right after you get off the elevator after the janitor’s closet, maybe you have one of those rooms

Is it still likely that you’ll get FT if you put it as your 4th choice since it has way more spots than any of the other dorms?

I am going to be a sophomore next year. I lived in a Manzanita single this year and I loved it. The place is very new and all the buildings look very nice inside and out. There are a few people to a bathroom and the bathrooms are made so you can use it alone, just go inside and lock the door and shower or whatever you want to do. There is a ton of space in the rooms and the closets and drawers have a ton of space. The pool for Manzanita is great. A lot of people in Manzanita have full views of the ocean or the lagoon. Also we have Carillo dining commons, which I and most of my friends think is the best dinning commons on campus. It’s right between the core of campus and Isla Vista so you get the best of both worlds. The great food in Isla Vista and the close side of campus are both less than a 10 minute walk or a 3 minute bike ride.

segfault, how’d you like living in a single?
I too am considering living in a single, just because I think it will help me have a better time at sb.

I’m thinking that the distance of ft might be a pain but it would provide more separation from school which would be good…staying in the channel 5 dorms means being at school all of the time, which I think I might get sick of. Who knows though, I guess we won’t till next year.

Yea pretty much, but I think that since I’ll be living off campus for the next 3 years, it’d be cool to live on campus the first year.

is manzanita really social suicide as people make it out to be?

Manici: I really like living in a single. There is a lot more privacy and you don’t have to worry about compromising with someone or making sure you don’t bother them. A lot of people like having a roommate too though, it’s all up to you and what you think you’d be best in.

MarioV182: I have never heard that manzanita is social suicide before and I’ve been living here for the whole year. The manzanita community is really cool and you’ll become really social with the people in your house. Also if you’re into the party scene, IV is a very short walk from manzanita.

I might put Anacapa as first choice.

Also, how’re the bathrooms like? Is it like every in their own stall, with four walls?
