whats the best school i can get into

i would prefer a private school since they give more money and i dont care where it is in the country as long as its good

here are my stats
Im a junior at a nondescript public high school in Arizona
Im a white male
I got a 183 on the PSAT
28 on the ACT
math-33
reading-25
English-26
Science-29
Im planning on taking the sat in may and improving on my act
Im also going to take the Math II subject test and I think ill do well in that since math is my best subject

Im looking at majoring in either math or engineering

By the time I graduate, I will have
About a 3.85 wieghted gpa
Taken 6APs and 3 honors courses
Completed calculus 3 at the local university
Captain of the tennis team 3yrs
NHS 2 yrs
2nd place in the regional chess tournament 4 times in a row(hopefully I can win at least once)

what are my chances at the University of Rochester or any other good schools you can think of

UR is a match for you i think

Tulane. They give out good merit aid.

Tulane is a good place, and they give out good merit scholarship money.

Tulane is great at suckering people into thinking that their scholarships are a good deal when they jack up the regular price well above what it needs to be.

apply to MIT, you might think you won’t get in but i think you should try anyways. Other possible/low-reach schools: Carnegie Mellon University (good engineering), Purdue (again good at engineering). Princeton is great at math so that’s also another possibility.

I don’t think there is any way the OP is going to get into MIT or Princeton. He has no hooks, and unless he is first in his class, he would need to increase his test score to at least a 32+ ACT (preferably 34+) or the SAT Equivalent. However I do not know how much his scores will improve as his PSAT matches up with a score of 28. Also his ECs are lacking.

Carnagie Mellon would be a reach too, but its feasible. He would probably be able to get into purdue though. Maybe check out Penn State, Minnesota and Rose-Hulman?

Carnegie Mellon sounds like a good choice for you.

Some good publics that you would have a good shot at getting into:
Penn State University Park, Michigan, Illinois at UC, Florida, Texas, Wisconsin, Washington

Some good privates you might want to look into:
Villanova, USC, NYU, Vanderbilt & Rice(might both be reaches, but worth looking into), Emory

There are many universities you should look into. Why not visit usnews.com ranking.

NYU is a private university?

Well, theoretical you can “get in” anywhere.

But “anywhere in the country as long as it’s private is good” is a terrible way to look for a college. Emphasis on terrible. For example, Grinnell, NYU, USC, and Georgetown are all private schools, but I doubt many students would be particularly happy at all four schools. Think a bit harder about what you want from a school.

“NYU is a private university?”

Yeah.
