What's the best school to which I can be accepted?

Bump 10char

you have a solid profile, and you do stand a decent chance
your GPA is on the lower end, but the rest of your profile should help to make up for it a little
good luck!

The chance of a full ride/half ride are far from slim. With a combined family income of $60,000 the OP has a very good shot at a full ride at schools with need-based aid. The high end schools in particular will guarantee a full ride in this situation.

Wow, thanks for that information. How do I find schools with need-based aid? I’m hoping to get into University of Florida because I don’t want my parents to suffer in college cost.

And if anyone else wants to comment, please do so.

Most schools offer need based aid. Look at the financial aid section of the websites of schools you’re already interested in. I know MIT guarantees a full ride for families that make under $75,000 and I suspect Princeton has a similar policy.

I don’t have a shot at MIT nor Princeton.

I was going to suggest Texas A&M as well (as a previous poster did) until I saw that you hate sports… and would prefer a smaller school. It’s extremely sport-oriented. It does tend to give good financial aid, though, and if you can get at least a $1,000 scholarship/year to it, they’ll waive OOS tuition.

Good luck!

Just because CC tells you you don’t have a shot, doesn’t make it true. And I only gave those two as examples. I’m very familiar with MIT and schools of similiar caliber tend to have similiar policies, so I used those two. My point was that many schools offer very generous need based aid, so there’s a good chance you’ll get a substantial amount.

i think you have a good chance…
my cousin got in to GA tech w/ relatively same stats… but its really competitive now…

Do you plan on taking the Calc AB and French AP exams? First gen. is always helpful. Need better SATs. Shoot for 750s in your subject tests. MIT, Cornell, and Princeton are high reaches. SAT for those should be 2200+. Good job on your upward trend.

Thanks, and I don’t think I will take those AP exams.

And thanks Tapper for everything.

Anyone else?

Bueller? Bueller?

More opinions please.

Sadly, the upward trend won’t really help at top colleges (Ivies, MIT, etc.). They basically want to see the 3.9 all through High School. SAT’s are good, but not quite Ivy league or MIT good, but hey, APPLY ANYWAY. You never know. Cornell may be more within your reach then you think! Class rank might hurt a little bit, 10-20/60 is like 15-30th percentile. Your EC’s aren’t GREAT, but they’re OK. No real 4 year devotion to anything but chess club. Other colleges you might want to consider…

Colby
Boston U and Boston C
Tufts
NYU
Brandeis

Sorry if they’re all NE colleges.

Chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/748621-chance-ivies.html

With as many applicants as there are lately, I’d say no chance for MIT, Cornell or Princeton. Of course, you gotta throw a couple of impossible applications out there anyways. In the unlikely chance you got into CMU (and you definitely wouldn’t get into computer science or engineering), since the work load is extremely high, you’d need to have a sincere desire to attend, more than just the desire to go to a “good” school. Decent chance at Georgia Tech. But it would be helpful if you had an idea of which major you might be interested in. I missed it in your post, and that could make a huge difference in which schools people advise you to look at.

Anyone else?

I think you can apply to any schools you want to and still hope for a chance to get in. But remember, what you really need is the passion to join the school and also a passion for a certain major. If you have not yet decided on your major, you should probably consider some liberal arts colleges.

:| I don’t know if a LAC is right for me. I know University of Florida has many many many majors, but I want to expand my horizons. Anyone else?

Please, anyone else?

Georgia Tech-math, CMU- high match, all others- reach
