I'm starting to look at my options for UF oncampus housing but have no idea which I should apply for. I'm currently debating between Beaty, Broward, or Yulee although I'm still not too sure.

I heard Beaty has more privacy but it's located further away.

I want to have some social life but Broward sounds like it'll be too loud/social for me since I'm not extremely outgoing and am pretty shy. I haven't heard too much about Yulee so I'm not as sure either.

I was just wondering if anyone has had any personal experiences with these dorms and could give their review/input about them? If you would like to recommend other dorms for freshmen as well, feel free to do so! Although I am more interested in reviews/information about Beaty, Broward, and Yulee, I am open-minded about other options.

There is no “best” dorm, it all depends on what you’re looking for. I never personally lived in any of the dorms you listed, however I often was with my friends who lived in beaty. If I had to live in any of those dorms, I would chose it. The “apartment style” with a kitchen and bathroom in the room was definitely the best. You can actually live a semi-normal life there. Also I think it’s an RA on every other floor, so they would have full on parties (and only got in trouble like once). Of course because of the layout, there’s not as much community, it’s not like you tend to know tons of people in the dorm (at least they didn’t). It’s the only style of room that it’s reasonable to actually feed yourself, rather then eating the dining hall gruel.

I’ve only heard good things about Broward’s community. I personally found the rooms to be dungeon-like. Something to consider is that since you’re not super outgoing it might be nice to have more of a community so you have more opportunities to find people you really click with. Broward has a pretty nice location too.

I’m currently a Freshman in Yulee, and it’s pretty awesome. Especially in the beginning of the year there were some events for the dorm, though by now those aren’t nearly as frequent. They were a nice way for me, not a super social person either, to meet a few people in the dorm. When compared to Broward, the showers are way nicer - they have a changing stall type thing outside of the shower, and are newer. But, they’re still communal showers that you share with a whole hallway, so they’re not amazing either way.

Oh, and noise probably won’t be much of an issue - it just really depends on who’s around you. I’d recommend to any student that they have a thing of earplugs just in case that one time you really need to get to sleep early people are being noisy, anyway. Both Yulee and Broward are really close to the dining hall, so that’s good if you’re getting a meal plan.

I would recommend Trusler or Graham. I have been in the broward and Yulee dorms and bathrooms, and these are way nicer. also, these dorms are really close to the better dining hall, Gator Corner.
I don’t know about Graham, but I know that because Trusler has the “Leader/Scholar” program, there are activities and events going on all the time.
