What's the best university to study in......

Well, why don't you visit and live in a certain place before judging?

300k - student population of Melbourne? This is really stupid man.

We are comparing ANU's student body and UniMelb's student body.

UniMelb's student body is around double ANU.

Melbourne city's population is 10 times ANU.

You do the math.

Second of all, I'm going to Columbia because I've lived in Canberra all my life and I want a change. Just like some other kids move around for college. Right?

Anyway, it was just frustrating that you completely dismissed ANU because of its "location", which does not suck in the first place. Rather not continuing on your irrelevant and ignorant banter, just accept that you blew the whistle a little too early.

NO, we are comparing the student population of MELBOURNE and CANBERRA.

im not judging it, im just portraying the general view of the place on student forums like this one. I am sorry to have hurt your feelings!

but i agree, i shudnt have said that it sucks just on the basis of other people's views , even though some students may not 'prefer' ANU's location.

Happy?

Thank God that's settled.

By the way, how come you reply to my posts so quickly and at any time of the day? lol...

its called addiction, havent you been replying round the clock too?

do canadian and american universities accept international students?

No sadly, I haven't.

And kh7577, don't hijack a thread.

Of course (in general) Canadian and American universities accept international students.

Ok Im Australian and i have this to say.

Canberra doesn't suck. But it certainly isn't a very good town. It doesn't have much in terms of services and activities compared to the major cities like Sydney and Melbourne. If you want to have a decent life and places to go on weekends you definately want to stay in one of the big cities.

As for ANU, IMO its not the best undergrad school possible. Its way better for grad students.

Canberra is ok but its become less and less important. The prime minister lives in Sydney and even a former PM said that the nations capital should be in Sydney. Pretty much Canberra is in the middle of nowhere and in terms of a city it isn't much. If you want a good experience stay in Sydney.

what do you mean by hijacking the thread?

it is my thread

@ vesalvay: good luck convincing a fellow aussie

For years, there has always been a Canberra dissing especially by the bigger cities. Go to Sydney, they will pay out Melbourne and say there is nothing there and vice versa. Cities in Australia compete a fair bit in terms of what they have to offer. If you, rukun, think that BlankAudio's opinion as an Aussie, is the be-all and end-all, then you must surely think the same about my opinion, as an Aussie. Right?

You think I'm the only Aussie who holds my opinion? Don't be stupid.

At BlankAudio:

"Former PM says that.. " blah blah.

Former PMs still wish they were in office. Former PMs also criticize PM Howard for living in Sydney instead of Canberra. Plus, who gives a **** where Howard lives? Is Canberra not the political centre?

It should be in Sydney? Don't Melbournians say that it should be in Melbourne etc etc? You can't use that as a case to outdo Canberra.

"If you want a decent life"... Are you kidding me? Canberra has such a higher quality of life, it's not funny. Sydney > Pollution, trash, crime, noise pollution, smell ... are you kidding me? Is that a decent life? Sydney's transport system is HORRENDOUS.

Every service and/or activity available to Melb or Syd is available in Canberra in respect to its population. Melb and Syd's population is over 10 times larger.

"Places to go on the weekend?" You're kidding me here, right? One of the most ignorant things I've heard. There is an abundance of things to do in Canberra on the weekend.

I've lived in both Melbourne and Sydney, and to be honest, the most common thing to do is to go the mall or the city. Everything the malls and city has to offer in Sydney or Melbourne is READILY available in Canberra, almost no exceptions. Except for the fact that there is much more open public spaces in Canberra to decrease over-crowding, and noise, pollution, litter is much less. Go to Canberra on a Sat or Sun (let's say during a morning)... You'll find the cafes FULL of people, you'll see street performances, etc etc
Go at night, there will be cafe/restaurants full, jazz bands playing, more street performances but usually dance, Hollywood in the City (they project a film on a masssssive screen and people flock around, sit on the chairs, laugh, eat food, and be merry) etc etc

Go to the clubbing scene, drinks are cheaper, cover charge is cheaper, girl quality here is AMAZING compared to the big clubs I've been to Melbourne and Sydney. The music is practically the same variety as in the bigger cities. Oh, and Sydney and Melbourne have at least x20 more instances of bashing and stabbing during your "decent life" and "weekend" activities.

"Canberra is ok, but its becoming less and less important". You are on the other side of the scale altogether. That is such a stupid statement and made even worse with the supporting evidence you provided. How old are you? Are you ready for college overseas... or college/university in general?

I've pretty much proved my case quite lucidly.

before i read the essay you just wrote, I'd like to say that your pov is one of very few of the kind, for me, and I dont take any ones opinions as the the final verdict, everything adds to the over all view of the subject-thats how it should be

i guess people do downplay canberra, and it has alot more to offer than what people say.

Rukun, I see you're beginning to see the light :P

But honestly, in general, people don't know **** all about Canberra and what it has to offer. I've lived in all three (and Adelaide)... wouldn't I know?

And I assure you, ask anyone familiar with academics and study in Australia, ANU is highly regarded.
