I've used UT's Profiler but their system is only organized alphabetically and it's very difficult to find someone in the latter half of the alphabet. And only one person has contacted me through the system, so it's not that effective. I know some have found their roommate during orientation.

What's the best way or an effective way to find a good roommate?

room with someone you know :)

honestly, I think your best bet, if you’re extroverted and willing to meet new people, take a gamble and get a random roommate. You may find someone whom you’ll really hit it off with.

My oos daughter and her oos roommate found each other on the facebook page for the Class of 2012.

go on facebook. the group texas 2013 has a whole roommate discussion board. there are hundreds of students looking in the group. that’s what i’m doing

I’m looking for a roommate for either a honors dorm (if I get in after “expressing interest” for it) or jester if anyone wants to shoot me a pm.

I found my roommate simply by emailing randoms off the profile matcher. The first guy I asked was super cool, we emailed back and forth a couple times and boom, we’re livin’ together. Emailing people that fit your profile and seeing if they’d work with you may not work the very first time like it did for me, but I’m willing to be EVERYONE can find a great roommate that way.

That said, I haven’t lived with the guy yet. He could try to kill me. If that happens, I’ll post back here to let everyone know.
