So my GPA is about a 3.4 to a 3.5, and I'm only a sophomore so I haven't taken the SAT's yet. I have no intention of applying to any Ivy league schools just because I realize that those are out of my range. The school I'm looking at currently is Colorado University(Boulder), there are a few others obviously but mostly CU. I'm not into sports really so what can I do to have a "unique" application? I do plan to take two APs next year, but other than academics what should I do to have a more unique application? Also, if a school has a high acceptance rate does it necessarily mean it's easy to get into? I read for CU that the majority of students had higher GPAs(3.6-4.0 avg. ) and higher SAT/ACT scores so I wasn't exactly sure, any advice appreciated :)

High acceptance rates from a good university, while unusual, means that most of the top range students from within the state apply there and therefore raise it. Ivy League schools have a low acceptance rate because 1. Too many amazing applicants, not enough spots 2. It helps them gain prestige to do so.

The best way to make an application stand out is obviously through great SAT scores, but if you’re asking for non-academic endeavors then leadership positions in known organizations are the best way to go. Especially if you’re bad at sports (Like 99% of us nerds at CC), this will put you at an equal playing field with others (Especially in business related degrees). Being the student council VP is unique in of itself, so no need to worry about the generic quality some of your positions may have.

If you want a really unique app., a part-time job is the best way to go because 1. Most rich, privileged students won’t 2. Shows your work ethic 3. Helps you pay for SAT books, tutoring if you’re from a poor background. Now don’t go overboard with a part-time job, ask your guidance counselor about the laws in your state (I live in Canada, I can only work 3 hours on weekdays and 8 hours on weekends) and how to balance both.
