What's the big deal?

I don't understand! Why do kids spend their WHOLE LIVES antagonizing over the Ivy League? Is it really so great? Are the opportunities that different?

To be honest, I don't get it. I mean, these schools are great (duh), but I can't determine a difference between them and a top twenty school...or even (gasps! Dare I say it?) public Ivies.

It seems like you're just paying for the name. Of course you have better opportunities at HYP, but are they really that different when compared to other elite private schools? What's the difference between Penn and Northwestern?

xoxo ;)

prepares

ps: I'm not bitter over a rejection. Princeton was the only Ivy I applied to. Waiting for my letter...but now, I couldn't care less! hook 'em

pps: Why, I would even say that Michigan is better than Dartmouth. More alumni. :)

If you are so happy with your school (UT Austin, I assume) and you don’t care about the Ivies, then why bother to stir up useless bickering on the board of an Ivy League school you claim you didn’t even apply to?

Tastes like sour grapes to me…

Oh, and for the record:

 1. More alumni does not necessarily make a school “better.”
 2. You said it yourself, Ivies provide better opportunities. It’s that simple.
 3. It’s “agonize,” not “antagonize…”

Plan II. Not sour grapes. I’m sure I’ll get rejected from Princeton.

I apologize if I seemed like I was trying to stir something up. I genuinely wanted to know why people are willing to invest so much time (and in some cases, their whole lives) in trying to get into Ivy League schools.

Are the opportunities really that different?

i know one reason i agonize about getting into an ivy league is that financial aid is way better than a lot of places. most of the top schools have better financial aid.

The name.

Only 8 schools are in the Ivy League and none are public.

Yep.

Yep.

Food, housing, textbooks, equipments… Do I need to go on?
