Hey, i just wanted to know if you feel like American university is more cityish because its right near DC or if its more in the suburbs/has a suburban feel.
Also i wanted to know if you feel that it has a bigger or smaller campus and if a lot of kids go and live off-campus. Thanks!

Definitely suburban. In fact, the zip code – 20016 – is home to some of the richest suburban-type people in the district. As you move closer to the Tenleytown metro stop, it still becomes only moderately urban. You have to go south at least to Dupont Circle (about a 10 minute drive down Massachusetts Ave) before things start feeling more city-like.

thank you. that’s what i was hoping for

are there any nearby shops/restaraunts? How close is it to get the full city feel of DC

Google maps and yelp.com are your friends in this case. Check out the yelp search results for tenleytown where the metro stop is for the red line that runs downtown:

On that map you can see AU to the SW but wisconsin is where all the shops/restaurants are. AU has a shuttle that runs back and forth from tenleytown to campus but it is not that long of a walk, .7 miles maybe?

From tenleytown metro to dupont circle or anywhere downtown it is an 8-10 minute subway ride roughly.
