What's the chance for students from CA transfer to Ivy League?

I'm current a student in cc in irvine. I wonder what's the chance get accept from Ivy League? And is there any Ivy League not require SAT score?

Excellent question, I’m wondering the same thing.

Hey, I went to a school in Irvine and I got into an Ivy League school. Its really hard to chance yourself because they all look for different things, but its not impossible. Keep up your hard work and give it a try.

PS: I’m interested in Colubia University and NYU(which is not Ivy League though). I major in business economic. And I am an immigrant so I don’t have SAT or ACT score. So am I still eligible to apply?

yes but i’m pretty sure you’ll have to take the SATs and all required tests

There are 8 Ivy league schools, go to their websites and they will tell you exactly which tests are required and who is eligible to apply as a transfer.

i know NYU didnt require SAT’s if youve done a year of college and havent done them already, i think because the SAT’s are mainly made for HS students… :)

im guessing a lot of schools have this rule  i have yet to see a single school that requires SAT’s regardless of how long youve been in college :)

It’s definitely possible although some ivies are more transfer friendly than others (i.e. Cornell and Penn have the highest transfer rates). I know someone who got into Cornell after attending community college for 2 years.

I went to a CA JC for a semester, and then to a VA CC for a few more semesters, and I just got into Dartmouth, UVa and Duke. There’s a girl from Australia who got into Dartmouth as well.

So how high does Cornell and Penn require for gpa? And what else do they look for? Does honor program help?

I met a few people who got into columbia… 3.9s from a california CC

I doubt that was the real reason why they got in though. ECs, essays etc really matter and high school track records. I think you should apply to all the ivies. My mistake was that I didn’t apply to a single one because I thought I couldn’t afford it and it would be a waste of 50$ each app… Just apply anyways and try to set aside about $1000 for applications.

I don’t think cost should be an issue. All Ivies (except Brown) are need blind and meet all need, usually with very little/no loans and large grants. The Ivies care a lot more about essays than UC’s and are harder to get in because they don’t have a special upper/lower division ratio and have extremely high retention rates. So the spots you are competing for are those of the very few students who transfer out. Princeton does not accept transfers and Harvard has not been accepeting them for the last two years.

theres no gpa that guarantees acceptance or anything like that and every school (and i mean colleges within whatever university youre looking at) has different standards.

and duh, honor programs definitely look nicer than regular classes…

you guys are being too nice, clearly the op’s english skills are terrible

So between UCLA and NYU, which is better? If I need to take SAT/ACT, which one is easier? Thank you.

@anatoly - the OP did say that he, or she, was an international student. Give him (her? haha) a break.

If you’re transferring, you won’t need an SAT score for UCLA (or any UC schools for that matter). I don’t know about NYU though. In terms of national ranking, UCLA is higher than NYU. But I do think it depends on what you want to do and what you look for in a school. NYU is expensive and known for giving out zero finaid, having zero school pride and zero social life (in the school). But they do have an amazing arts program (though UCLA has a good one, too). But you’ll be living in the heart of NY, which would be absolutely amazing. UCLA is cheaper (depending on who you are) and their school pride is off the charts. Westwood is also a pretty nice place. The cost of living in both places are ridiculously overpriced.

Hehe, thanks Edelynly, your information helps me a lot!:)

If I apply to IVY League for 2010 fall semester, when is the deadline to finish SAT exam and submit the score?

So if I want to apply Cornell, Penn, and Columbia as a transfer student from cc, do I have to take both SATI and SATII test before applying if I have taken neither of those tests? Thnak you~
