What's the curve like on the ACT?

All I've heard about it is that -1 on math is usually a 35. Are any sections curved so that one wrong is still a 36? Also, what would my score be with 3 wrong on math and science, and 4 wrong on english and reading? Thanks ;)

In the practice booklet, none of the sections will still score a 36 if even one question is missed. For Science Reasoning, one question missed drops one's score to a 34, and two questions missed drops the score to 32. It's extremely harsh compared to the SAT, IMO.

I'm just reconstructing this from memory, though; I threw out the practice booklet. Someone else may have more accurate information.

I'm looking at my REAL ACT test book right now. The curve does vary between tests. The different practice tests in here have slightly different scaled scores. In general though, it's -1=35, -2=34 . . . down to 30 or 29 area where it eases up some. Again, that's a generalization, but I'm assuming that since these are old ACT tests that, because the curve varies on these, they are bound to vary on the test today as well.

I hope there's some variance in the curves, because the Science curve in ACT practice book that you get for free was nasty! Thanks for the info Scurf!

I missed 6 or 7 and got a 31, I believe.

There is like none....at the top of the score limits.

Do you think this ACT's science section will have a harsh curve?

the question is, has the size of the curve (if any) been dependent on the difficulty/scores of everyone

it seems pretty obvious from this forum, and others; plus the people that I talked to at the test center that the science section was way harder than normal

Maybe it's just me, but as hard as it was I found it easier then the May one was...

It was also harder then my first time though, this was my 3rd time on the test, I also took it 1-2 years ago..

I would have to concur with the two above me. The first two times I took it the science was completely uncomprehendable, couldn't even make sense of the graphs. This time I felt that science was pretty easy (probably only compared to what I was used to putting up with though.) Last time there was some crazy thing about cloud formation and airplanes . . .

Ummm I thought it was ridiculous... I took it my sophomore year and it was easier for me then. This was the first science test (including practice tests) that I didn't feel I had enough time to finish. Maybe it was just bad pacing on my part. As for the curve... it has to be based on the overall group's, right? There's no real other way to determine if questions are hard for students.
