Can someone tell me more about clickers. My son said that he has to buy them to participate in the class, some are free???thanks
I wish iClickers were free(You can get them used for like $40-50 and more for a new one). Basically, they’re these remote-like things that are used by many teachers (especially in science/engineering lectures) as a way to ask questions in class and take attendance. You register your clicker’s number in Moodle so that the courses that you’re in know to match up the responses to your account. All the of the classes that I’ve used them in counted the clicker responses for a small portion of your grade (like 5% or something).
Each student at my son’s school received an iClicker at no additional cost at orientation before his freshman year. If it is lost, the student is responsible for replacement.
Must depend on your professor/program. S is a senior in chem engineering and has never needed one at UMass.
In my experience he should only need to buy one clicker. Most institutions use the same clicker throughout the institution.
mademoiselle: You are so lucky. USF made daughter buy three… yes, THREE, different clickers for three different classes. And we already owned one used for a different institution. She refuses to tell me how often she actually used them in class leaving me to wonder whether they were used at all. Personally experience is that clickers make me a bit insane because I tend to parse the questions too long. What. A. Waste.
