What's the deal with Essay B?

The essay topic is:
Many students expand their view of the world during their time in college. Such growth often results from encounters between students who have lived different cultural, economic, or academic experiences. With your future growth in mind, describe a potential classmate that you believe you could learn from either within or outside a formal classroom environment.

My problem is that this essay is not specific enough. Do they want you to make up a character and tell a story about him/her and his/her qualities? Do they want you to write this essay to reveal about yourself what you admire most? Is it even possible to write this essay without sounding like your sucking up? I would appreciate it if someone could give me any help on this issue, because I am really confused. I wish I could see an example of this paper.
Its really not as important what you write but how you write. They want to see your writing style and experience....and the essay is so none specific to make it open ended so you can be creative with what you write...you dont want to write an essay like everyone else...you want to stand out....

I am confused as to what this essay topic requires as well :-s

Do you write in the future tense as in 'I believe that I would learn this and that from ...............(culturally diverse person perhaps)'?
