you don’t need to take a placement exam for foreign language IF you scored a 4 or 5 on an AP foreign language test. Those scores now satisfy the Gen Ed language requirement.

More so, for foreign language, at least, depending on your major, you might not even have a foreign language requirement, so the placement test won’t really matter:

The absolute worst, you have to take the first level all over again. From what I’ve heard, if you have 4-year of one language, you will at least be placed in level 2. So don’t fred it.

I have another question:
I’m majoring in business and I was hoping to pass out of math 118 with the ap calculus ab test. Unfortunately, I do not feel like I got a 4 after taking the test. Could the placement test be a second chance of passing out of the class, or do placement tests just hold you back instead of bump you up?

So my major [BME] isn’t on the list for needing Foreign lang…
that means I probably won’t be taking a foreign language class. I’ve done four years of French, should I take the placement test for that?

If you do not get a 4/5 on the AP Calc exam, then you cannot pass out of 118. The exam will place you into 1 of 3 math classes, 118 being the highest. However, if you’ve taken Calc in HS, then you should probably be okay on the placement exam, don’t fret.

If your major does not require a language, you don’t need to take the placement exam. However, if you think you’ll want to take a language class at 'SC, then you should take the placement exam so you don’t get placed into a level lower than what you should be in.
