you seriously think california is the only place with these ‘problems’ ? I can anyone imagine how sheltered and naive your daughter must be… my gfs 10 year old sister has a better grip on reality than you

I think the larger cities ( i.e. Compton) of California are different from the rest of California.

OTOH, my (African American) family recently experienced some… ahem…peculiar comments while staying at the wonderful Del in Coronado. We were surprised, but it didn’t spoil our good time!

OP’s home state:
[Facebook racism incident raises diversity issues at UMD | Minnesota Public Radio NewsQ](Facebook racism incident raises diversity issues at UMD | MPR News)

looks like about the exact same thing; racism over facebook, perpetrated by a couple students. I guess all in Minnesota are just redneck racists too by the OPs logic. i didn’t know we were dealing with a hardcore racist here!

more recent than compton cookout too

The OP is clearly a ■■■■■.

Lol @ the power of the media.

OP…
Now I know why you’re asking these things… you arent a student… you’re a parent (or at least I’m assuming so since you’re talking about your D)

Asside from that, do you honestly believe that frats and sororities at other campuses dont throw racially themed parties? If you answer no to that… its b/c you havent heard of them since no child want to tell their parents about any parties that they may attend since just about all of them include underage drinking.

No… there is no tension among the races in California. I love how you’re making a generalization for a state that has 37 million people in it based off of one event on a college campus that happened to get some unnecessary attention. And as for your Ds friend, you claim that she didnt say why she couldnt take it anymore, yet you automatically assume that its b/c of race/prejudice or something related. Have you ever thought maybe it was too difficult to be so far from home, or maybe she wasnt doing too well acadmically? There are many reasons why she may have not been able to take it anymore.

I’m just going to lay it down plain and simple now in hopes of ending this ridiculous thread…

Neither UCSD nor any other university in all of California has a hostile racial climate. The events of Compton Cookout were one of many racially themed parties (which occur at every university, I’d be willing to bet my life on it) and do not represent the views of 99.9% of the campus or that state.

“No… there is no tension among the races in California.”

What? I agree that the UCSD thing is old news, and that UCSD is probably no different than any school with those demographics (my D’s bff attends), but how can you say that?

They are getting ready (hopefully unnecessary) for a race riot around that BART incident up here. There are folks being pushed on to train tracks. These things have nothing to do with the UC’s, but the city of Davis has a bit of a reputation too.

Totally benign compared to the worst I’ve experienced, and of course, and I will state clearly that I am also a parent who has lived in several cities. My kids my see it differently. Good for them.

Could be the media inflaming things, but I believe there is fuel. I believe there will be “tension” wherever the numbers are significant.

So Plainsmen, for the most part, as an AA in California, in the places I have lived, especially compared to elsewhere, it’s no biggie. Compared to NY, it’s more about money than skin color here.

BTW, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mexicans see it differently than I do.

@OP, to be honest, California only gets labeled as liberal because of the large cities such as San Francisco and LA. In smaller towns like the one I live in, 95% of people are conservative christians. Not to mention there are literally probably only 15 African Americans in my 2000 student high school.

@Shrinkwrap…

When I say that, I meant it as a general statement… I never meant to imply that there arent issues that arise up and races is never an issue.

Sure there are incidents that are spurred on by those who do harbor some racism, but when I say that there is no tension among the races, I meant on a daily basis doing average everyday activities.

LOL.

…Anyway, agreed with UChopeful2010. OP is trollin’.
