My son was deferred at the EA round and accepted at regular decision. We were puzzled by the deferral, given his GPA of 3.6 (incl. 6 AP classes) plus a host of honors and ECs, including Governor’s School, and solid SATs of 1300 (1910 w/ writing). We later heard that JMU admissions looks very intently at the GPA within the core subjects of English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. So if your GPA is padded with A’s in the arts, PE, IA, etc, they will take note of that. Something to keep in mind, especially when wondering why one kid gets in but another kid with a better overall GPA does not.
