What's the down and dirty on the Columbia University Summer Program for High School Students?

I'm thinking about applying to this program and want to know everything about the experience--what course you took and what it was like, class sizes and difficulty, the social scene, drugs/alcohol, strictness of rules, level of freedom, etc. I'll be a rising senior and am thinking about taking either Intro to Architectural Design and Theory, Biomedical Engineering, Genetics and Molecular Bio, or Intro to Business, Finance, and Economics.

This is kind of late but if anyone is reading this and thinking about applying then…

Columbia was the best summer I’ve had so far. I took Media and Politics, the class was relatively small; around 25 people. It was difficult because it was so intricate but extremely fun at the same time.

Their are so many different people at Columbia, from all over the world. The atmosphere was open and welcoming. The rules gave you a lot of freedom to explore the city. Curfew was at 10 from Sundays-Thursdays and at 11 on Fridays and Saturdays. Basically you could do anything except for being late for curfew, not showing up for class and drinking both on and off the premises. If you did the last two you could potentially be release from the program, this did happen a few times.

I never saw any drugs or alcohol, they’re essentially non-exisant as long as you choose the right friend group.

I’d recommend anyone reading this to do it because it was such a great experience and I for sure made some life-long friends.
