I didn't apply to Lehigh because it was close to my boyfriend's college and I figured my parents would think I was only going there for him. 8( I REALLY regret it now that I'm looking at my state school...

I applied to Swarthmore because I had already filled out what I thought to be a great application before I decided I didn't want to go there. It would have felt good to turn them down, but I got denied instead. Sigh

debater, I'll deny them for the both of us loll...
I didn't realize how much I hate small schools until AFTER I applied...

Websites that were ugly or hard to navigate turned me off.

I applied to drexel because the app was free and took me about 10 minutes. And then I never sent my SAT scores/transcripts because those costed money.

And I completely agree with the OP! I thought about Colgate and then when I mentioned the idea to my mother, she asked why I wanted toothpaste. Actually, I didn't apply to a lot of colleges because of the way my mom said the name.

^^ I did the same thing with Drexel!

And I didn't like the colleges that had cheap-looking websites

I didn't apply to CSU Bakersfield because the library is closed on Saturdays.

Didn't apply to Chicago because the application was annoying, WUSTL because I have never even heard of that college in my life and thought it was a crappy college, and Georgia Tech because it was 70% guys and only 30% girls.

I'm not applying to any schools that won't take the ACT with writing instead of the SAT2s because I refuse to take any more SAT's.

didn't apply to WUSTL because I've never heard of it before and after I had, I understand why I had not.
applied to Yale because of Gilmore Girls (my M&V SAT scores are higher than Rory's and Paris', I have way more ECs than she did, my GPA is almost as good, not sure how I got rejected.) =)
applied to Chicago because I read somewhere that 50% of its students married each other.

My college counsellor and everyone told me that I shouldn't apply for any Ivy Leagues b/c I wasn't capable of handling the pressure. He also trashed me in front of my family and my faculty advisor at my school. I was scared to death and decided not to apply for the Ivies, but my dad forced me to do it. I'm glad I did apply b/c I got into my top choice.

Furman...he didn't like the school color...purple

but....he thought the Furman...FU was funny

I didn't apply to any schools that didn't require an essay and SAT scores because I thought it sounded fishy.

Didn't apply to UChicago because I didn't want to do the app. Applied and accepted to Northwestern -- but have no intention of going -- because the purple subconsciously ruins the school for me.

I didn't apply to University of Michigan cause I didn't think I would get in with a 3.6 and 29 ACT 3 years ago. I had to transfer in.

SILLY REFUSALS:

I didn’t apply to Colorado - Boulder because I’m too scared of getting hurt to try downhill skiing. Silly reason, I know. Now I’m really mad that I didn’t apply. I love the school and the Denver metro.

I didn’t apply to Smith because it’s my ex’s last name.

I wouldn’t even look at Kalamazoo, Goucher, Ursinus, Juniata, or any schools with strange sounding names.

I wouldn’t apply to UChicago after I heard rumors that the squirrels were more physically attractive than the students.

I didn’t apply to UCLA because I didn’t think I’d get in. I’m out-of-state, after all. I’ve just now learned that 6 people from my tiny private school got accepted this year. I’m kicking myself. I should have applied.

SILLY WHIMS:

I applied to my local state school…NOT because I wanted to save money! NOT because I wanted the option of being close to home! No, in my moment of brilliance, I decided that I wanted the option available in case I found the love of my life before May 1st. How pathetic.

I almost applied to GWU because they have maids to clean the students’ dorm rooms. Sweet.

I almost applied to UC Irvine just so I could go to the Spectrum whenever I want. The Spectrum is amazing.

My other choices were all for normal reasons, I think.

I only picked schools in medium-sized to small cities.
I only picked schools that weren't too cold in winter (highs above 35 degs in January)
I avoided schools in the South except for Virginia.

I applied to UPenn because I heard it was such a great school. While filling our their app, I realized I needed four years of science, which I didn't have. I thought about not applying, but I had already started on my essay, so I went on anyway. I put "n/a." Few months later, acceptance letter.
