Applied to UC Davis because it was my dad and my “target school” since the eighth grade…but I had no intention of going.
Applied to UC Berkeley just to see if I’d get in and so I could prove that I don’t fail at being Asian…still, no intention of going.
Applied to Mills because it was free, but didn’t bother getting my reccomendation letters in because that would be too much work and I didn’t intend to go anyway.

Applying to Dickinson cuz, even though I have deemed it slightly sketch in pretty much every aspect, the president of the college talked to us during my visit. That deffo didn’t happen at UPenn.

College names with only one consonant bug me…U of Iowa, Iona College, Ohio State, Ohio U…

I’ve wanted to go to Dartmouth for a while. I didn’t think I’d get in, but I doubted it would hurt to apply.

Reason for applying? It was mentioned a couple times in Eclipse, the third book in the Twilight series and I took it as a sign LOL.

haha really omgnoway? that’s hilarious.

I decided not to apply to a few schools because they were in sketchy areas…Brown, Trinity…

I didn’t apply to Columbia because a sibling went there.

I didn’t apply to Indiana University because the limestone and sculptures/fountains there creeped the heck out of me.

LOL rofl @ clairea MIT students aren’t THAT creepy looking in fact my SAT verbal teacher is pretty cute, well once you get to know him but definitely not at first sight. LOL XD

I didn’t apply to Washington University in St. Louis because I refused to consider a school with a name that long and was one of the schools with a name that was “in _______”

haha I had forgotten that Dartmouth was mentioned in the Twilight series. I’m sure people from my school would be lining up to apply if they heard that.

I also don’t especially like the full name of Wash U…but then I realized that Columbia is officially “Columbia University in the City of New York,” among others. So be it.

For the record, I’m from near St. Louis, and nobody around here says Washington University in St. Louis. Ever. Washington University is also very rare, as is WUSTL. It’s almost always just WashU. The first time I started looking at CC I was very confused by all the references to WUSTL, until I realized people were talking about WashU.

I have a friend who didn’t apply to Brown just because she didn’t like the name: “The least school spirit-inspiring name ever. Brown. Plus I hate the color.”

I posted once here on this thread, but I’ll add another:

I didn’t apply to Cornell because I found out that round-trip tickets from Detroit to Ithaca, NY was $1,300 plus tax, so figuring that I’d make about 5 trips back home every year, I didn’t want to dump several thousand dollars into air travel. But then this year, after admissions, I decided to give Cornell Summer School a spin, so I check air tickets again (but not only on Northwest/Delta, but also on Continental Airlines and US Airways) and the ticket was $220 RT on US Air.

I collapsed on the floor and cried. Big time. Why???

One of my friends didn’t apply to Holy Cross because she said there were to many stairs and it was on a big hill.

It’s not really dumb but I didn’t apply to Gtown and Penn because they both a fricken beast of a supplement.

I also didn’t apply to any school that didn’t use the common app. except for 1.

Weather
I got so much grief over it from my mom, but I wanted to go to school somewhere without snow.

Didn’t apply to WashU because of its waitlist crap. They sent me approximately eight letters a week and I thought its lack of a supplement was sketchy. Looking back, though, it probably would have been a good fit. Applied to UCLA because I freaked out submitting my UC apps (they were my first ones) and decided to add it last minute.

Didn’t apply to Bucknell because the tour guide didn’t know what a cleanroom was. lol

My daughter didn’t apply to Northeastern because too many moms on the tour had designer handbags.

-I didn’t apply to yale because it was in CT and i hate CT.
-i didn’t apply to duke because i was afraid i’d get raped by a lacrosse player
- i didn’t apply to wesleyan because i didn’t like the way the admin officer looked at me when i tried to talk to her
- i didn’t apply to uchicago because i didn’t feel like thinking that hard over the essay prompt.
- i didn’t apply to nyu because it is 60% female
- i didn’t apply to swat because everyone was nerdy and their track was ugly
- i reconsidered swat because the bathrooms were nice
- i applied to stanford to see what would happen

I considered applying to Harvard just to see what would happen, but then decided that that 60 bucks could be much better spent elsewhere.

I decided not to apply to Georgetown because several Gtown students shouted at my tour group for George Washington that we should all attend Gtown instead. I thought that was rude. :)

Applied to Yale because of Gilmore Girls/Gossip Girl
Applied to Princeton because it had the best college tour/guide
Appled to Dartmouth because it sounded cooler than Brown/no supplementary essays

Didn’t apply to Columbia/Georgetown because having to pay $60 to see the app was ridiculous
Didn’t apply to Stanford—too many essays
Didn’t apply to UChicago—application felt contrived.

I’ve heard a lot of crazy things in this thread.
