Never knew much about it. However, throw it in with Carnegie and Vanderbilt.

this is real stupid lol. i didn’t apply to Drexel because i thought it was in England and i really didn’t want to go that far…

i had my SAT scores sent to UT Southwestern as an undergrad because i though my mom said she wanted me to go their…i didn’t know she meant for med school. (i got a few calls from them on this one)

i didn’t apply to Baylor because i thought they were too desperate since they were giving away free applications.

Applied to Wesleyan because it was on the “10 Most Intellectual Colleges” list, but didn’t know anything else about it.

Applied to Carleton because it has a “Chicago (as in UChicago)” atmosphere, and also because it appeared on the “10 Most Intellectual Colleges” list

Applied to Macalester because it was on the said listing, and Naviance says I have a decent chance of getting in

Applied to Harvard because why not.

Applied to Dartmouth because I thought I had a chance (because nobody else applied from my school), even though I wouldn’t even consider going

Applied to Cornell because I thought I had a chance, even though I wouldn’t even consider going

Applied to Williams because it’s Harvard of the LACs, as such, applied for the same reason I did Harvard, not that I’d actually go

Applied to University of Hong Kong because parents forced me, even though I wouldn’t actually go

Didn’t get around to applying to St. John’s College (MD) because they had no concrete deadline so I just kept putting it off. When acceptances rolled around I just decided not to bother.

Didn’t apply to Oxford (UK) because I thought I couldn’t pass the entrance exam for the course I really wanted, Physics and Philosophy

Didn’t apply to Reed because they make sure every single applicant, even compatible ones, know that it’s hell on earth there. Bad marketing.

I’m not applying to certain schools in New York and California because the female to male ratio is so high.

I’m not applying to any colleges in NJ because they are in NJ.

I’m not in college yet, but I’ve always forced myself not to think of Cornell because of Andy from The Office. He went to Cornell and look where it got him. lol

Brown is just a color. A bunch of other safety level colleges have dumb names as well. OH. University of Scranton (another Office thing) is definitely a no-no. I refuse to even glance at anything they send me. >_>

I live incali and I don’t want to apply to any Cal States because I feel like they’re not good … At all. Plus California public education is total shiit. I’m applying to the catholic university only because it’s in Washington DC and it has a nice campus. Plus I’m probably going to get in. I’m applying to purdue because I thought it’d be more impressive to say “oh I graduated from purdue!” instead of any of the Colleges I applies to. I was really happy I finally found a public school to apply to because all of my schools on my list are mainly privates. Then I realised out of state tuitions basically the same…

I’m applying to St.Mary’s college as a fallback… Even though tuitions 40k a year and financial aid is a deciding factor.

I’m applying to UC Berkeley because my parents are making me, eventhough I dont have a chance in hell of making it in.

I took Pepperdine university off of my list because everyone said that schools filled with a bunch of stuck up rich kids. Plus it’s in Malibu and I’m looking for something in the city.

And finally I took off UC Santa Cruz on my list because no one looks at that school with regard.

I’m not applying to Kenyon because I know a ****** guy that goes there…

I’m not applying to Kamalazoo because I don’t think anyone will take me seriously with a college name like that.

Not applying to UGA because everyone in GA goes there so I just feel like it’s one big GA high school…

I’m applying to Princeton because I’ve always had a good feeling about it, and not applying to Yale due to the opposite reason. Applying to The Harv for kicks.

Updates to come.

I thought about applying to Dickinson. Then a lax bro from my school, who in AP Euro tried to “win” a discussion by telling us that an attempt to appease to peasants during the French Revolution would have been exactly like Obama’s presidential campaign, had committed there. Never mind.

I won’t even have Washington State University as a safety because way too many kids from my school go there, a lot who aren’t particularly intelligent or people I want to be around again. I wont go anywhere land-locked because it just doesn’t sound appealing to me, nor would I go anywhere southern just… because. I won’t consider any religiously-affiliated schools even if they “aren’t THAT religious” because I’m strongly atheist. For a while I wouldn’t consider any schools with high acceptance rates, but then I learned. I also wouldn’t consider places with average SATs lower than mine or places where the majority had under a 3.5. I’ve gotten over that though, mostly…

I didn’t apply anywhere except state schools, and I still don’t really know why. I think part of it was fear of not getting and not being able to get enough scholarship to make a competitive school worth it (when I could go to a state school for a lot less).
Didn’t even look at any LACs because I thought they were too small and only for “people who don’t know what they want to do.” Now, I am at a big state school, thinking about transferring to a small LAC, and switching to a very different program (guess I did’t know what I want to do!)
Advice: Don’t let the risk of not getting in somewhere (or not getting enough money) keep you from applying anywhere! Go for it (there is a reason for the term “reach school”)
Look at every kind of school early on and visit them. What you think you want will probably change.

As it turns out, all of my D’s favorite schools have maroon as their school color!

I applied to Princeton because my parents made me. I wrote my essay about how I wasn’t qualified and every word I wrote and they read was a waste of our mutual time. Man, lol those were some dark days

Now that this year’s Senior Class is pretty much done with their applications, should be some good ‘new’ stories to share!

Harvard - didn’t apply because I have a really comfy Harvard sweatshirt and if I got rejected, I’d have to stop wearing it.

Cornell - initially applied because I heard they had good food.

WashU- applied because I like to say WUSTL.

Dartmouth - didn’t apply because my guidance counselor suggested it, but pronounced it wrong.

Notre Dame, Gtown, Villanova - too religious.

Tufts - didn’t apply because my mom and dad said it reminded them of their college’s campus.

UPenn - didn’t apply after my guidance counselor asked me multiple times how my Penn State app was going.

Brandeis - didn’t apply because it was hideous.

UMich - didn’t apply because of the whole squirrel issue (i am quite scared of squirrels, if that makes it any better)

I didn’t apply to Princeton because its in New Jersey.
I didn’t apply to Lehigh because there are too many frats, it has a huuuuuge hill, and its near a steel mill.
Didn’t apply to Brown or UChicago because the supplements were too long and pretentious.

Applied to Northeastern because the guy I have a huge crush on, but will never like me back, goes there. Always a good idea.

I know a guy who didn’t apply to Rice U because he thought the name “rice” was weird for a university.

I didn’t apply to UCLA nor Berkeley because the UC application annoyed me.

D didn’t apply to Gustavus Adolfus (SP?) because actual school on visit seemed nothing like online/paper and was not a fit. However, we both felt a little guilty because the tour guide and admissions officer were so nice. The admissions officer looked and acted like “Martouf” - the Tok’ra leader from Stargate SG-1 - to the point where we just referred to him as “Martouf”. She felt bad about hurting his feelings and not really liking the school.
