I'm a High School Junior from Nevada who wants to go into Civil Engineering in college and I had taken a look at NYU in Manhattan and somehow came to the conclusion that there is no engineering college/program available there. But after taking a look at NYU again recently I found that the Polytechnic Institute at NYU was basically the home of engineering for NYU and I have completely resparked my interest into the university. But from what I've read, it looks like NYU Poly is a very seperate school from NYU and don't even share the same mascot/athletic teams while another source says that NYU Poly has already become fully associated with the main campus of NYU. I'm a bit confused with this and I was wondering if anyone knows what place NYU Poly is at right now and what's coming ahead in the future (as I enter college in the fall of 2014). Thanks!

NYU Poly will be a college within NYU starting Jan. of 2014… that being said, if you want to apply to NYU Poly, you need to applying using the NYU application in the Fall. The school name will be called NYU Polytechnic school of Engineering.

So it will become just another college/branch of NYU? Well that sounds pretty good in my case! Thanks!

NYU is in the process of acquiring PINYU (formerly Polytechnic Institute).

If you need financial aid, be sure to find out how PINYU’s financial aid will be after the merger is complete. NYU had a reputation for poor financial aid, while PI/PINYU had decent financial aid.

Note that the PINYU campus is in Brooklyn, about a 20 to 30 minute subway ride from the NYU campus in Manhattan.

Yeah, it will be another college/ branch in NYU. i’m not sure hows the financial aid will be like for class of 2018 and later… but Poly does offer Poly scholarships to only their students like what other schools at NYU have scholarships for their students (stern, LSP, CAS etc). They told me, with the merger, they are able to give even more generous aid just for the Poly students. Call them up and ask too.

Thanks Guys! So does that mean you can be taking english class at the manhattan campus but have to go back to engineering in brooklyn? Sounds a bit crazy but sounds kinda fun to me. I do hope financial aid is a generous as possible

No. Whichever school you got admitted to is the one that you will be studying at! You are allowed to cross school minor and or take classes like at stern or CAS after a semester or so. Plus you can go to the main campus to use their library and gyms and other events and clubs. It’s only a few stops away.

The MetroTech station is one block south of NYU Poly, and it’s six stops to West 4, in the heart of NYU, using the A, add one more stop for the local C train.
