NYS definitely has loan forgiveness programs for teachers willing to work in certain areas of NYC etc.
My sister was in a program at a private school and had her loans forgiven for teaching 5 years in a Title 1 school. Her school came off the Title 1 list while she was still in repayment, but her loans were still forgiven. It was all part of the program. I think she paid very little of the loans. She was not a young college student but a mid 50’s lawyer, and partner at a Wall street firm when she decided on a second career in teaching.
It can be done.
It can be done as long as the program exists and you are willing to teach in the areas that they designate.
^ Or unfortunately. The amount of interest paid on 27k is huge over ten years and worse if you extend it. There are online calculators that show how that 27k expands.
Hard enough to pay back.
