For family reasons, I found out that I have to graduate one quarter earlier than I have planned to. I'm in the engineering school, where the max is 21 units. In order for me to graduate by the coming Fall though, I have to take 25 units at once. I will be talking to the counselor as soon as possible, but I was wondering what is the most number of units you've heard someone take above 21 units? When people petition for taking more than 21 units, what is the number of units they are petitioning for in general? Personally, I've heard of my friend's friend taking 7 classes... and do you think it's better to talk to the counselor in person rather than e-mail?

As long as your academic standing is in good shape, your petition should be approved. I know someone who petitioned for 36 units every quarter (not that he took 36 every quarter; he’d drop it down to maybe 24-27).

Approved for 36 units! Wow. Fortunately, my academic standing is in good shape. I feel less nervous walking into the counselor’s office now. Thanks for the helpful information, grapesoda!
