What's the most "prestigious" AP class/exam when it comes to college admissions?

lol we have Physics C, but no one (out of five students in the class) is taking the exam. I'll probably take it next yr after i take the class.

Chem: we haven't had anyone pass in like 5 yrs....i will tho' :)

APUS: probably 50-70% pass rate

AP World: probably 60-70% pass rate (but this exam's sooo easy)

Calc AB: only 3-5 people usually take this...probably 80% pass

AP English Lit: Hmmm this year only one person took it, usually only 3 or 4 do, probably half usually pass...the girl this yr will probably pass.

And that's all the APs my school has.

virtuoso: you know that you can't take the AB and BC exams in the same year, right?

well at my school we have 4 section of ap bio...so about 120 kids taking it....i ddi it last year ap chem this year and ap chem is defiently more difficult

I agree with that. Again, I guess it depends on how "math-oriented" you are--I think Chem. would have been a lot easier had I already taken basic-level calculus. But either way, Chem. requires far more logic and really, really solid of both concepts and a lot of minute exceptions to concepts (remember FR question 4, anyone?), whereas Bio. requires more general knowledge that you can gain by studying.

Well I find that the most challenging AP class I've taken is Physics C. The math isn't that bad (it doesn't really go past 1st semester calc BC), but the concepts can be really difficult, and sometimes it seems like the problems require you to remember really minute things. Also envisioning the geometry of the problem can be kind of hard as well.

AP Chem requires a good conceptual grasp and quite a bit of memorization (which I should be working on right now, btw), but the math is really not hard (little to no calculus).

My Latin teachers claimed that Latin was the hardest AP, but if you're good at Latin and good at analyzing literature, Latin Virgil is fine. Yes, you need to know the language, but unlike Spanish and French, the test is in English and you write essays in English. I love Latin, but I feel Spanish and French are more difficult languages in general. Maybe it helped that the passage we had to translate last year (Laocoon and the snakes) was something I kind of remembered because I thought it was a really cool scene.

My vote goes to AP Physics C. All the ridiculously smart kids are in my physics class, and it's somewhat intimidating.

I think the hardest AP class at my school is physics B because the average AP score is a 2 also econ a law pass rate with a 2 mainly because the teacher is horrible and i think cal BC has the highest with a 5 ans ush has a high pass rate because the teacher is so great

oh yeah last year for world history we had a 88 percent pass rate

I don't know about most prestigious, but the least prestigious include Psych (a lot of schools give you absolutely no credit or placement for it), Euro (again, placement's hard to get and it's seen as the "easy" history AP, at least around here), and Environmental Science (it's not necessarily the easiest, but there seems to be some weird sort of stigma attached to it, like people who take it aren't good enough for the other sciences).

haha odd, at my school euro and chem are considered the hardest. euro?

p.s. i personally love spanish lit, and the fact that it might actually look good. but that's not my main concern of course :)

Psych and Enviro, as well as a few other APs, especially those that are only supposed to be one semester courses, just seem to be, in many individual's eyes, very easy. And, to an extent, they're right...no one should be able to selfstudy by skiming a review book the night before and get a 5 on an AP exam, but in some subjects it's quite possible.

ok, my sophomore year (I'm a senior) the world exam was REALLY hard. My teacher says they changed it last year because not enough people were passing. I got a 5, but it was definitely the hardest test of my life and my first AP. So I think the world test in 2004 commands some respect. I'm also of the opinion that lit=easy and fun and calc bc= a waste of my $82 because I'll probably get a 2 or 3....ick

I do think the languages are hard... My bro got 4, 5's on most other tests (he's science/math person though) and he got 1 on the AP French test. I laughed hard, though.. HAHA

At my school, AP European is INFAMOUS, thanks to the teacher. It's known as one of the toughest classes in my school.. i didn't think it was so bad. I barely studied and made a passing grade although i wasn't satisfied with it.. sigh.

Otherwise, i would say sciences/math tests are definately one of the hardest. I didn't mind the english ones so much... And i passed AP USH and I missed half the semester (school started in August, i came in @ October~november ish..)... so i didn't know about the beginning too much... which was quite bad because one of the essays butchered my grade. I was angry because i was expecting a 4.

AP physics C~ although ap physics b is a lot harder than C but i think they will like C better~ Calc BC~ Gov~
my friend told me ap chem is a lot easier than Bio... she took both.. and she said bio is a lot of memorization after all.........
