What's the most prestigious summer program for a SOPHOMORE to attend?

Excluding Harvard summer school.

I can’t remember if RSI is for rising Juniors of rising seniors but RSI

K, but RSI is for juniors. anything else? :)

You’ve probably heard this one before, but why not try doing something you love? From personal experience, I can tell you that following your passion looks just as impressive on a college application than any prestigious program you might participate in.

I did the STARS program in St. Louis - it’s pretty nice. Quite a few graduates of the prgram each year end up at HYPS.

Listen to your inner voice-My D is a freshman at H now,and her summer after Soph. year, she got a babysitting job for 5 weeks in Spain ,to improve her Spanish .You don’t need fancy programs-they often just show you have money! After her senior year, she spent 7 weeks on an organic farm in Sweden as a volunteer- WOOFing ,to learn about about farms ,and do something she knew nothing about! Of course ,she had the grades, test scores ,ECs…demonstrate your interest in the world ,and not about prestige -show how you are unique!! Woofing is an organization of organic farmers .You get room and board in exchange for helping with chores on a farm.

For what it’s worth, my two daughters, both Harvard students waitressed and babysat in the summers all through high school. Just typical teenage jobs. They didn’t have the desire, nor we the money to attend so called “prestigious summer programs”. Many of their friends attended elite summer programs or went abroad but when it came down to admissions this did not, in my opinion, carry any weight on their applications. If anything it shows that they have more advantages and therefore may be looked at differently in admissions.

What you want to do is to what you love and to let that show in your application. That’s all you can do. Let your passions shine. And the fact that you need to work during the summer or just want to work during the summer is not going to hurt you. Believe me colleges can see right through someone who is trying to pad their activities just to get an admission letter.

MOSP comes to mind
