What's the most unique and/or enriching course at your high school?

idk…bunch of $!uts take it tho

Excited for Gender Studies next year, which I think is decent unique - not just women’s studies but gender identity, etc.

Also, we have Robotics (and a huge club for it as well), Interior Design/Clothing, and overall the reading department is great. A bunch of my friends are taking Tutoring Young Readers next year, meaning they go to the elementary school down the road and help kids with their reading skills, which I think is cute.

Also, instead of Spanish V and beyond we have Cinema. :)

And we have Child Development as well, but we call it Early Childhood! We have a preschool on campus and teachers/other people bring their kids, and if you’re taking EC you get to work with them and design projects. We also have a CASE/LABBB program so if you intern that you get to do things with them, and they’re such nice kids (and we have a huge Best Buddies club on top of that.)

My school’s Childhood Development description:

Emphasis is on understanding the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of children from conception to age six with special emphasis on preschool aged children. Other topics include parenthood responsibilities, children with special needs, and the influence of the family on the developing child. Students plan for and participate in a nursery school. This course is intended for students considering careers dealing with children such as teaching, health careers, social and recreational work, and for those interested in learning more about children.

It’s in the same hallway as my chemistry class, so the entire year kids have been skipping, jumping, running, yelling, and swinging past my class while we’re doing stuff :P.

@ JHU
What the eff, man?

At my school, it’s basically teaching preschoolers. You go through testing and you could end up with certification. It’s pretty cool because we have our own daycare at my school.

Social and Cultural Anthropology.

My school has this nursing program thing where they can become nurses straight outta high school

^That’s so cool, the only nursing program near my school is at the Career and Tech. Center. I used see a lot of male and female students walking around with scrubs.

Culinary Arts (which is my magnet). We basically spend 3 hours every other day cooking anything from cakes to steak. It’s fun but can get very stressful

We have a nursing program, too. You can only get certified or like its equal to a two-year degree. Doesn’t much. If I was going to be a nurse I would make sure I was registered.

3D games - just by the name of it

Otherwise I resort to the AP class Art History… Oh goodness the class size is only in the teens each year and you become complete art nerds–I catch people posting art pieces from the class and saying it is beautiful on Facebook or see people analyzing pieces in chat. And then they go make inside jokes about every piece of art they see in the “real world.”
Okay the teacher knows too much and lectures the whole period and eavesdrops on our conversations and relates the hotel we’re talking about to art styles…

We have Forensic Science where the teacher sets up crime scenes.

We also have The Art of Storytelling. Whatever that is…

We have chickens, turkeys, bunnies, etc and the environmental science class learns how to kill them, skin them, and eat them.

Oh we also have a meditation class, a Tai Chi class, and a film documentary making class.

Russian, Arabic, restaurant management (they run their own restaurant during lunch!), counterculture, medical microbiology, medical forensics, allied health (with cna certification), into to oceanography (uconn credit), sports literature, sports science, myth and movies, Multi racial history, public speaking, metal and jewelry, business (also help run school store)! Music as poetry, Intro law, intro politics, intro women’s studies, emt course, firefighting course, war conflict and peace in lit, Biotech, Kinesiology, zoology, veterinary science! Marine bio, paleontology

We also have an art museum on campus
My school is not even that big - about 2000 kids total
I’ve never taken any of these classes though except for Russian… :(

World War I & II, Lincoln and the Civil War if you like history.
Advanced Foods, Child Development, Novels for Young Readers which basically involves writing children’s books.
We used to have a mythology course, but then they got rid of it. :-(

Oh yeah we have History of Vietnam where the fabulous teacher has ties with veterans so you’re able to meet them and hear their stories. Also multicultural studies where it’s a 100% interactive class with demonstrations and whatnot. I’m taking both for senior year and I’m pretty psyched about them.

We have “broadcast journalism” which is pretty cool, it’s like working on the production of a TV show
my school also offers culinary arts, psychology, mythology, yearbook (as a class!), photography and many different music classes

Oh yeah we have a World War II class and History of the 1900’s. But I hate history so I would never take them lol.

^ yeah, I’m not one for history either but I’m taking it or the teachers lol Both classes were AP teachers of mine last year. I can’t not take their class senior and just leave them.

IB Theory of Knowledge - It’s an amazing class about how we think, and coming to knowledge, and we get to debate and stuff. I love it!!

Theory of Knowledge is a component of the International Baccalaureate program that everyone in IB has to take- it’s one of my favorite classes, though. A combination of philosophy, world issues, critical thinking, current events.
