I am starting a community website for my university. We plan on offering student deals, party schedules, a jobs board and a general student forum. Were working on this as a small team of 4 and weve already received some funding by local businesses, so things are moving along fine.

We want to make the website as useful as possible for our members and we were wondering how we could help students further. What would you look for in a website like ours? Is there anything you feel could help you out which isnt available in your community? What is the number 1 thing that would make your life easier as a student?

We would be very grateful if you could answer any of our questions and well be sending karma your way.

Getting to see my high school friends. I’ve had a hard time adjusting to this environment. The people are just so different and my lacking social life has been bothering me.

The job postings is a great idea, especially for all those college students that need money. Yep, the best way to get cash is to work. Keeping the jobs board updated and fresh-with as much info about the position as possible is a good idea. You could probably get ads for your site from local businesses that want to be connected with the jobs postings.

If you could add a rentals section, that would be a huge help. It is hard to find houses, rooms, and apartments that are geared towards students if you don’t know where to look. If you have a section with that you could get ads from the big apartment complexes for some more funds. It would be a good place for students that are looking for other students as roommates or for home owners close by that want to rent out to students.

Things that can help save money is important. Other posters already put in coupons for local places, but maybe there is more. You could have a space for people that want to advertise their need or desire to share rides. For example if someone wants to go to the mall, the grocery store, or across the state, there might be people that would like to share the ride and gas money.
