What's the point of the UM ID when you apply?

I recieved a UM ID in my email today, upon which I included it in my app.

It's supposedly tied to some information.

What info does it have tied to it?

I submitted my test scores multiple times (multiple test administrations) to Michigan. Is that information encoded in a bank somewhere under my UM ID?
I also submitted my email to the mailing list, both through the website and National Merit for being commended.

Another question: If I have submitted test scores to UM multiple times, can I just email them and ask them to find it and place it in my folder?

I think they sort out your scores for you, once it's mailed to the admissions office. I think everything about you is tied to that UMID and if you go to UM you're going to have it for almost everything else. It's like your SSN of the UM world. I've used it to rent a refridgerator online, and it's a part of most UM forms that you fill out (along with your userid).

Once you get a UMID, if a form asks for it, make sure you include it on their. Like Jimmy said, it is the equivalent of your SSN (the reason they're not the same is for safety concerns). Your UMID is used for just about everything involving your student account, grades, etc, whereas your username is what's publicly seen more often (email addresses, login information, etc.)

Ok thanks for the responses.
